I have a wisteria over the barn door. Looks purtey. Est. 50 yrs old.
Pain in my ###. Have to trim 3 times a year just to open the barn doors to get the tractor out.
wish there was a growth retardant to spray.
Cant seen to hinder it.
I think the roots are under the former barn foundation that is underneath the gravel in my drive. You have to get all of the roots. Find the main plant and cut out all of the spreading roots you can find. Then dig around the main root ball and start a fire. It is about the only way I found to control it. It might pop up somewhere else via the roots later. Rinse and repeat.
That place has spreading bamboo too....I've been fighting that now for 3+ years. PITA.
I am on 2 forums. The other is sooo policially "correct". Why do I even bother??
I think it is just the Chinese species (Wisteria sinensis) that is invasive. We have a couple of native species (Wisteria macrostachya and Wisteria frutescens) that I do not believe are.
