I heard these cicadas in New Zealand one time. What a horrible noise they make. I really think DDT needs to be brought back.
I believe Tennessee is in the range of the Northern Black Racer also. They must have a different temperament than the Southern Black Racer because at BOL1 the Southern Black Racers always ran away very quickly when I came across them in the woods. The northern species is apparently a good bit larger than the southern one, so maybe it's just the size difference.
One of the few times a black runner at BOL1 sat still long enough for me to get a picture. It is a juvenile Southern Black Racer (they are gray when young) sunning himself in late November on top of some matted dead briars. He's about 4 ft off the ground. Not very active since the weather was cold.

Love ya AC Dude, but no one receives SS unless they paid into it enough to meet required quarters of coverage (40). Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which is a government needs based program (different program) for those who never worked, didn't work enough, and are disabled, and low income, and also disabled children or low income elderly 65 and over get that instead.
Not saying SS is not BS, but not everyone is entitled. There are other exceptions that apply as well.
Also, some people get both, depending on if their ss is low enough, and rest of income/resources is not over allowable limit. SSI (needs based program) you get Medicaid (free). SSD disabled after 24 months get Medicare, or age 65 Medicare. This is short version summary, of eligibility (not all inclusive criteria, mileage varies depending on exceptions to the rules, i.e. widows benefits, certain conditions for disability like end stage renal disease, etc.). I'll shush it up now! This is what I do for a living, so hard not to speak to it (ad nauseam).

But it's criminaly and illegally forced on people. It's Tyrranical socialism.
It's not an investment, it's a negative return.

That is unfortunately wrong PP--or maybe fortunately. We are already too old and have paid too much into the SCAM already to get out now: You could stop paying now and they cannot do anything about it tho if you are in your younger years and want to start saving the money for yourself.
I read the law back in 1978 and found that it not only included that the politicians DID NOT ever pay into the "program" but instead got 100% of their last paycheck FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES after retirement...I also found out that you can write a letter to the bastards, demanding the revision of your SS number, getting out of the program and not being part of the SCAM.
This was the loophole for the RICH and the INFORMED. I wrote the letter to them back then and now that I am retired...I felt the repercussions of that letter to prove I am right.
I got $757.00 and she got half as my wife back when I applied at 62...
after only 7 months of that, it all got cut approximately in half. I only got paid for what I worked for from my 15th year of life till my 21st year of life...after they found the letter in Baltimore, they immediately cut my payments down to not what I should have gotten for working all my life, but only up to the time I wrote the letter.....
You do although need a TIN (tax identification number), so that THEY can steal your tax dollars still....
No I'm not really wrong, only technically. I'm aware that it's voluntary. They make it very difficult to opt-out with no informed consent. It's kinda like the bio weapon shots, but much worse. They will get employers to harass and deny employment. They go as far as trying to stop parent's from taking home there baby, unless they get a SS number for there baby. It's still tyrrany and unconstitutional.
Government employees typically pay into the gov. Retirement program, and exempt from SS system, as well as some teachers in some states, some pay into both, as well as other employment entities have different retirement programs (some state or federal employees and some other exceptions). One size rule doesn't fit all. As per the rest of your experience Gary, of what transpired in your situation, Never heard of anything like that happening the way you describe it. There are only a cple/few reasons/scenarios that would legitimately result in reduction of benefits. None of which fit what you describe. I'm sure you speak truth, so not doubting that, but I've just never heard of such in over 30+ years. I'm not pro government, I don't profess to be an expert in anything, and I learn something new every day. And today's one of them!

The sheriff's office confirmed to WDSU that no Ponchatoula police officers showed up to work Friday.
Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson said on Facebook that he believes the officers have "blue flu" due to the city not approving raises for officers.
According to Layrisson, when no day-shift officers showed up to work Friday, he contacted TPSO as well as reserve officers to help patrol the city.
Layrisson said Hammond police will help with the St. Joseph School Spring Fair this weekend.
"I believe this episode of 'blue flu' is related to payroll issues," Layrisson's post said. "Our officers are disappointed in city hall because they are underpaid. They make far less than other city employees and they are fed up with the mayor ignoring the city consultant's compensation plan."
It is unclear how long officers may choose to stay out of work.

I'd be fine if our cops stayed home. They really aren't needed around here. Of course then I'd want a refund on my taxes.
