I would like to offer a different perspective: HIIT - High Intensity Interval Training
My workouts are about 15 min long, 3-4 times a week. Noticeable gain in strength, endurance, and weightloss (a have a belly)
Though, in Florida, there are no hills so it make my hiking tests with pack easy .
In any event, the training itself helps with endurance so much so, that I cut out cardio (pretty much) completely. Maybe do a nice run once a week because I'm bored. It turn from me barely being able to complete 1 mile (without slowing down) to 3-5 miles in full stride.
So I stick with HIIT, it has improved every aspect with very short exercises
