What? An engineered virus? Starting in Wuhan, where China has their version of the CDC and nasty bugs regularly escape from there? Huh... go figure.

China--if anyone--has the motives, reasons, and so forth to continue to refine and utilize WMD.....which--to use a virus--would still leave materiele, structures, bridges, air strips, and so forth largely intact.

Of course I'm a writer, and have been contemplating doing a spy novel.

as far as I can find out, this thing is very similar to Avian flu in that it started in wild animals, there is (probably) a 9 day incubation period during which time the person wont know they have the disease and will be spreading it around, the outbreak will probably last about 3 months, 3 weeks coming, 6 weeks of intense activity and 3 weeks tapering off.

That was my version of sarcasm. I have high confidence that no bats or snakes were involved with the source of this outbreak, it was their 'lab'.

BTW, this virus has a reproductive R0 value of 3.8. (see https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1220919589623803905.html ). That means for every person who gets sick, they will infect about 3.8 other people, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_reproduction_number for more explanation. Ebola was about 2-2.5. Normal flu is about 2-3. No wonder this thing is spreading like wildfire, and will continue. Definitely looking like we're facing an epidemic. So time to dust off your isolation strategy plans.
