O.K. How many firearms

This is highly subjective.
I could get by with one 12 bore shotgun and a .22 rifle.
If that's all I had or could get, I'd prefer a reliable single shot 12 gauge
and a reliable bolt action .22 rifle, tube fed. It's too easy to loose magazines (clips).
I just happen to have an old but very nice condition 12 bore single shot Stevens and
several bolt action .22 rifles.
The 12 bore Stevens is chambered for 3" magnums and I fired one ONCE.
I'm not recoil shy but that hurt!
My favorite .22 bolt action rifles are the old Remington 500 series.
510, 511, 512, ect.
The most accurate .22 rifles right out of the box I've encountered.
I suppose I have 50 or more firearms and a bunch of air rifles.
No wonder I'm broke!

lets see if the SHTF,,,2 AR 15's the AR's would be my primary self defense gun so I want a back up weapon,,1 45 ACP ,, a good bolt action rifle and a pump action shotgun,,,so 5 is enough for me and throw in a shit load of ammo for all

I'm not expecting to whip an army.
But preppers prepare for the UNexpected don't they.
If my children, all adults, and adult grand kids, can make it to my rather secluded country home then we'd be
4 to 8 more. 8 or more presents problems with living space, food, etc.
Then again 4 to 8 more to provide for 'till they learn some basics.
I can plan but no one can plan the outcomes.
Were I to prepare for everything that might come along I'd quickly drain my meager investments
and be in my own personal economic collapse. There are few things worse than outliving
your money.
Being cautious can lead to paranoia and
paranoia will destroy ya.

Yes indeed keeping a low profile is bright.
That said too many people know I'm armed but not to what extent.
I have a 125 yard shooting range behind my house.
That said few neighbors that can hear the shots.
Can't hide everything from everyone but caution is smart.

I doubt I could cash in my meager investments after shtf, perhaps even before if shtf
was obviously coming.
A fast collapse might be "invited, come as you are", situation.
I'd posit that paper money would only be good for tinder to built a camp fire.
Silver might be handy after things settle a bit.
Ammo, food, meds, and other hard, usable goods would be better barter but I'd be very careful
who I'd trade ammo to. If I'd trade ammo at all.
I don't have much in the way of first aid supplies and intend to fix that.
Bandages and aspirin don't go bad.
My diabetic insulin tabs won't last too long but perhaps I can control blood sugar
with diet. Dunno.

a fast collapse would be good, get it over with sort of thing but I doubt it will be that, I've always thought it would be long and slow-domino cascade type. preppers need to keep preparing and stocking up, no matter what is happening in the outside world, slow and steady wins the race- as the tortoise said to the hare!!

I did manage to ding a 3 ft x 3ft steel plate at 150 yards before my hand went numb!
My hot loaded .45 Colt and .44 magnums are enough for me.
The .357 is so versatile.
I have several .357 revolvers and two lever actions in that caliber.
Fun to shoot those rifles.

It kicks, little over a hundred pounds being thrusted back into the shoulder, I weigh in at 177lbs so roughly I only have 75lbs to stabilize myself for the first and follow up (not easy), the 460 is a 300yrd shooter though I never shoot beyond 150yrd with the 460 as to try and avoid a followup. Anymore I don't really shoot it now that my adventures are in the past. By all accounts I'm too light for the rifle!
