I know a lot of preppers are purchasing various makes and model of gas masks , I don't know enough to trust most I see online that's catering to preppers, I am very familiar with the M17 mask That I fully reconditioned with all new repair parts for all 4 masks I currently have, the M17 (predecessor to the M40) was my issued mask when I was in the service, I have a couple of M40 mask though I haven't gone through them and reconditioned them yet. My primary masks are the advantage 1000 mask. I was looking at the M50 and C50 but for the price I'll stick with the 1000.

Be careful of the M17 and M40 masks, some had flaws and malfunctions that was produced in the 80s (late 80s for the M40) that wasn't addressed till the mid to late 90s.

Here's a couple of links regarding the issue with the M17 and M40. Some of the problems were improper training, improper maintenance, production problems and mask failure. The links below, you need to advance to the next page by clicking 'Next' upper and lower left side of the page.
