Come on Bluejoy, can't you rise above making a typical liberal ad hominem response?
My point was that if their homelessness was caused by conditions in LA, as you implied, then they are homeless by choice because they CHOSE to stay in LA instead of moving somewhere else with better conditions. It has nothing to do with the condition of my heart.
People have moved to find better economic conditions throughout history.
I have never called anyone here heartless, but taking the homeless and burning them alive certainly qualifies. I believe that most of you all consider me left, although I hate labels.I don't know if you know this Bluejoy, but whenever the left here can't argue on merits they resort to accusing conservatives of being heartless. Every time.
Some of the homeless in the LA area are employed, but even so cannot afford to buy or rent. To quit a job and go elsewhere is not so easy as just picking up and leaving. On top of that, children are involved, too, and uprooting them isn’t easy, either. It isn’t a simple problem nor a simple solution. My point was that if their homelessness was caused by conditions in LA, as you implied, then they are homeless by choice because they CHOSE to stay in LA instead of moving somewhere else with better conditions. People have moved to find better economic conditions throughout history. UNLESS someone held a gun to their head and forced them to stay.

I am glad you made it. I am trying to look at all sides of why...some are strong enough to leave and some are not.Doreena, I have been unemployed and for all practical purposes a single father with two children in desperate economic straits. No it's not easy to pack up and head for greener pastures but I have done it myself. My car died during the move BTW.

we helped at a homeless drop in centre for nearly 10 years when we lived in the next county, most of the homeless were a lot more interesting and knowledgeable than the sheeple that looked down on them, I know which sort I would help out in a crisis if it came to it.
Or they hitch to Florida, lots of "homeless" there. Riding around on their bikes looking for shit to steal to buy their drugs with.I've heard the same said here, some homeless person do a minor crime, nothing violent nobody gets hurt but just enough to put them in prison for a few months over the worst of the winter weather, then they come out just as the weather gets slightly warmer. knew someone who did this- homeless.
Helping someone to become more helpless is NOT HELPING. Life should be a little hard or else you end up sitting on your behind doing nothing to improve. Some people need motivated.Expecting People to take responsibility for themselves is not hard hearted. Its actually very caring.
but isn't that what a lot of people do? and not just the homeless. sit on their backside with their hands out expecting someone else to provide? i'm sure it will also be the case post SHTF. some will ALWAYS expect others to provide, its human nature.Helping someone to become more helpless is NOT HELPING. You just have to use your best judgement and expect a few to fool you now and then. I know with me it's often just a "feeling" I get, which is of course unreliable. The expert conners know how to play you.Telling the difference between someone who deserves help and ones that are just conning me has always been my problem.
