911 Tactical also sells laser pointers/locators. I purchased a year ago a Laser Genetics ND-5 Laser Locator at the 911Tactical
website. It was originally purchased to give helo's inbound to medical aids a way to quickly find the incident. I've only used it twice
with great succcess and praises from CDF captains and pilots who agreed that it was a great tool for such a thing. From the
same officials who prasied it also ended up "banning" it from volunteer fire depts, at least our dept. I thought that was crazy, to
ban something that could make a difference in a life and death situation. alot of times dispatch will mis-direct the chopper unless
volunteers have GPS and can give the pilots coords to where we are. Sometimes this does not happen and having this locator
pointed skyward the pilot can see it from miles away. So far I have verified it's visibilty at 14 miles when pointed skyward. It's
visibilty may be farther.
In recent months I have used it up in the forest to increase illumination for my 5x night vision when exploring at night. It's beam
can be adjusted from 5mm to 35mm. It has an aircraft type aluminium housing and runs on 2 CR-123 lithium batteries that last 7
hours continuous and comes in a very nice padded case. it is used by USCG in various places. I think the officials that didn't want
it used were concerned that the user was not properly qualified.
It is awesome to use in conjunction with night vision to extend the illumination at night. With the beam adjusted to 35mm you can
see very clearly 400 yards. Of course it isn't IR and when shtf you'd definately want to NOT give up your location. It still is a very
important part of my bugout pack as it is very invaluable for many situations. At $250+ it's the low end of what 911Tactical offers
on their website as far as laser optics. They have a great selection of lasers and lights.
Others are 2 colemen 137 lm, 2 surefire 6p's, one mounted to my escort magum attached to a quick release mount
for use on my H&K 9. Also a Fenix TK-35 with 820 lm turbo mode runs 1.5 hours and low which is advertised to run 170 hours with 4 cr-123's. I will lilely get more as I am a light freak. Also have a search light off a Bell 205 that is flown by fresno county sherriffs. It runs at 28 volts. With two 12v batteries in series it makes daylight on a hill 1.5 miles away. I'm working on a housing for it and a buddy we are creating the circuits needed to run it off a single car battery. It will be a blaster.
