Who is still Wearing Masks, and why?

In the supermarket early the other morning there were about 10 staff and 15 shoppers and only one, a big surly looking farmer type, was not wearing a mask. Probably 90% were wearing them simply for compliance, 10% out of genuine concern for the virus.

I looked at the big buffoon and though, thanks mate, you are drawing all the attention to yourself and away from me. Your little protest is pointless but go ahead by all means. As a prepper I live by the grey man principle and at this stage I couldn't give a sh*t about masks since I only wear one for like an hour a week. I actually wear one a lot more at home, spray painting, grinding, sanding, working with fibreglass, spraying chemicals for weeds and for white ands and other pests. But if it got bad enough outside I would get a medical exemption to not wear one.

It's like the virus shot, when neighbors ask if I've had it or am getting it I tell them that I have a medical condition and have to consult a specialist to see if it will effect me adversely. That shuts them up. Everyone out there is looking for a response from you, so I try to give them one that is palatable but also grey.

All preppers agree with the Grey Man principle, but then most go and scream from the roof-tops about all this stuff we discuss here. They have learnt nothing from the examples of the socialist dictatorships of the last century, of the hundreds of millions murdered or sent to Gulags to die for the exact same attitudes we have here. Freedom isn't a new concept but there are times when you have to just keep your mouth shut and enjoy it privately.

I agree with your take on the gray man approach. It’s always best to keep your cards close to your chest and not get noticed for anything, good or bad. Obviously I don’t keep that motto here on this forum….
I wear a mask anytime I’m going into a building or business where they request you to. No big deal and I take it off as soon as I leave. I am not concerned about getting ill anymore but can respect others wishes when it comes to something this simple.

Here in the States, gray is state or locality dependent.
Some have never mandated masks. Others have.
Where I am, I see a mix of both. Some have masks on, others do not.
Some are store dependent. My local mom and pop owned hardware store has a sign that says to the effect, "Everyone is an adult, wear a mask if you so choose."
Meanwhile, Lowes insists on masks.
I shop at the mom and pop, avoid Lowes as much as humanly possible. As it should be.

In another thread, is a few vids of those against vaccines/masks and those for vaccines/masks.
The situation devolved into physical altercations. Think about that a moment. Are you ready and willing to bow to either side for the sake of remaining gray? You may not have a choice.

Back a year ago many places were enforcing masks, now they are not, even if they have a sign saying they are. People just ignore the signs. Nobody says anything.

It funny, there is a restaurant nearby that had a sign saying they would not participate in any mask mandate. They must have gotten in trouble with the health department or something because that sign has been replaced by a sign saying that if you have COVID symptoms, state law says you can't come it. Not a mask to be seen though.

They also have tables spaced out in an obvious social distancing scheme, but the signs on the closed tables say they tables are closed due to "a personnel shortage." It's like they are forced to space people out but pretend it's for something else. I have a feeling their customer base is very strongly anti-mask.

We stopped at the supermarket today. There was a total of 2 dopey fools wearing masks. I wonder if they have any idea of just how stupid they look.

Researchers in the medical community believe that many of the deaths during the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918 were caused by masks. (Promoted bacterial pneumonia which even Dr. Fauci signed off in agreement with in 2005)

Masks change the pH in your mouth as well as the temperature. This leads to not only dental hygiene issues, but changes the bacterial environment in your mouth.

People do not wear them properly. They should be changed every 20-30 minutes. They should not be cloth. They must have no gaps. Eye protection must be included. You should not touch them. They should be disposed of as biohazards.

But never believe a virus can't get through them. The size ratio is the same as a marble through a chain link fence. Flow, pressure, and vacuum conspire to render the water droplet catcher story as bogus. If they catch water droplets -- breathing will evaporate the water and draw in or expel the virus anyway.

Viruses have been around far longer than all of us. It isn't going to be stopped by a mask. A full-body pressurized suit isn't even 100%.
