Ya kind of nailed it NR. At least the yanks would be doing something. But you forgot about them holding the beer in one hand and shooting with the other.
I grew up in the Apartheid South Africa where racism was institutionalized in the schooling system. True story!! In year 11 at school the the science teacher said the problem with South African settles was they were on the back of the horse with a gun in the one hand and a bible in the other, where the Americans has a gun in the one hand and a bottle of whisky in the other. Shot Shoot all the natives and all the buffalo to shreds - seems the same mentality lives today;). South Africa is now well and truly overrun and stuffed. Not long and the US might be there.

In all the preppers I talk to across the world the American have the highest mentality of bugging out, as there is so much craziness and high level of violence just under the surface and not to mention the guns. If I was in a US city run run run. Yes you will be nuked and bio-weapons used against you - but the majority of the death and carnage post SHTF will be from internal civil war :ar15::rocket:, my 2c thought on the subject.

Put 5 US preppers together they prob have more guns esp bullets than the entire Australian Defense Force. Strange though 22LR ammo imported from the US is readily available but 17HMR is now becoming scares - I think the last scheduled shipment to Australia was cancelled.

So that's why we can't find .22 ammo here!

Don't believe everything you see or hear in the media Hippophibia. Not all of the U.S. is covered in big bad city's. For example: Alaska is 1/5 the size of the entire U.S. and 2-1/2 times the size of Texas with a total population of 650,000 people, most of the western half of the U.S. is very lightly populated with miles and miles of open country.

The majority of our city's are very safe. Of course the media only focuss on the problem areas. Most of the problems that we have are in the big liberal democrat controled city's with large "diverse" populations of people on the dole and illegal aliens. I agree with you though, I wouldn't live in any major city either.

Of course we have a lot of guns and ammo. You say it like its a bad thing. If other countries gave up their guns, then that's their problem.

While I don't agree with the destruction of the majority of the bison herds, we still have bison running free today in many places. And the "natives" are doing well, hell they all have casinos.

We have no control over what our ancestors have done, but I for one am very proud of my ancestors, and their accomplishments, who came to the U.S. long before the war for independence. They gave us a great country. Unfortunately there are many people today who want to destroy this great country and turn it in to something like Europe.

Alaska is where they Americans put all their " Special" citizens, its cheaper than mental hospitals in every state :) You just gotta listen to Sarah Palin for less than 1 minute to realise why the favourite foods in Alaska are Honey Nut Loops :)

:)Ah..more words of wisdom about the US from a Britt who obviously knows nothing about Alaska or our politics. The real joke was McCain, not Sarah. Besides, everyone knows that our favorite food isn't some kiddy cereal, its salmon, caribou and beer.;)

Neither and both. It's a situational thing, IMO. I'd have to be able to evaluate what's going on. I don't want to leave in the middle of the hullabaloo, but I don't want to stay for long, either. What I have on hand would figure in heavily to what I would decide. All in all, I'd try to get out as fast I as I could without adding to the chance of "Being bitten".

Don't be too defensive, most countries have a checked beginning - what the Spanish did in South America was way over the top - and to today they mostly still deny it.
Just having a bit of a dig at US culture and accentuating a few things. US constitution and democracy is one of the greatest things ever given to the world. It unfortunately appears that the US has/is gone/going the way of all major civilizations become rich pompous with over inflated ego and morally bankrupt. the same happened to the Greeks, Romans, Babylonians, Mongrels, Ottoman empire to name a few. There are lots of crack showing like mass shootings, racial tension, so called police brutality, total disregard for law and order, legalization of drugs (cannabis, see my post on zombies below), living on gov welfare etc...

Yes most countries in the world have similar problems esp in the western world, but level is much higher in the US, When storms like Katrina hit lots of guys raided gun shops and shot the authorities evacuating the area. Storm Sandy they stoned the police that were evacuating a flooded hospital because they wanted food and heating for their homes. Australia has plenty of storms etc - but you don't see the same level of violence and insanity. I suppose these are generalizations from your liberal cities, it is still true that things are taken to a different level in the US.

PS Bison were mostly taken out and then reintroduced.
Yes most preppers around the world are jealous of the US right to arms. That is based on right bear arms to prevent tyrannical governments. In Australia firearms aren't even allowed for self defense, but those that have taken the pain to get licences have huge advantage as only like <5% of the population have guns. Mostly limited to bolt action rifles, a very serous pain to get handgun licence.

A posting I did on an Australian site about ZOMBIES . I am bugging in live on the edge of a small community that is part of a largish metropolitan area, will just deal with zombies as they come and might have to bury preps and then recolonize after the herds have past through.

There are a few kind of Zombies that one has to prep for, the first type are readily among us and need a good slap to wake up.
  • Those stuck to their phones who aimlessly walk around and into things across roads without looking etc.
  • With in the first 1-2 weeks post SHTF, those that have substance addictions who go mad and raid old age homes, pharmacies and hospitals to get the drugs (nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, anti-depressants, cannabis, amphetamines etc etc) - they are the true zombies who need something in the head.
  • Then from 2-4 weeks those that have no preps, they are the walking dead - no action needs to be taken against them - they are like ghost that will disappear soon.
  • I suppose there is another group that has been discussed here quiet a bit - the raiders: unquenchable hunger for food human or otherwise - they are the evolved zombies that can run and have horde mentality - they need two things in the head to stop them.

Not defensive at all. I've been around the world many times and of all the places I've been I still prefer the U.S. Not the eastern half of course, too many people and the city's are full of takers. Without going in to too many details, most of the problems that you describe during Katrina and Sandy were from a small but violent demographic. Not representative of most Americans.
I've worked with many Aussies around the world and had many Aussie friends. Of course the Kiwis have better beer.:)
