I just saw on the Atlanta news that the police are so busy now that they are going to stop responding to shoplifting calls. They said stores should enact their own security plans. Are you kidding me? Sure, Walmart can hire a guard 24/7, but small shops don’t have those resources. This is the reason I believe in CCW. We’re in the richest country in the world, and can’t afford enough cops......

Cops not responding to shoplifters?

No wonder retail is going under. Toys R Us just went bankrupt, and Sears is on its way.

I remember responding to a Walmart call where a security person restrained a shoplifter, and the shoplifter's partner threw liquid lye into the guard's face.

They still walked out with their $50.00 toaster oven, and the guard was disfigured and partially blind.

All over $50.00.

Of course the cops can't respond. They're too busy trying to stop some poor sap for going a couple miles over the speed limit. I don't think there's any shortage of police, their priorities are just focused in the wrong areas. In my county we have about 6 cops on duty at any given time. In my opinion that is too many for this area as we have virtually zero crime. I'd gladly send a few to Atlanta.

When I managed for a major department store years ago, we had off duty cops that worked security. DPS, city & sheriff. There was a guy who was masterbating behind a fixture watching a sales woman. We got him on camera and the officer would not do anything except escort him out of the store! I couldn't even get him to trespass the guy so I could at least get his name and info to give to my hunny who was a cop at the time to arrest him later. I was pissed! And after complaining to the main store manager nothing happened and that cop stayed on the payroll. It was almost closing time and the jerk didn't want to stay late and deal with the paperwork.

It would be a shame if that guys picture ended up posted around town.... of course then you would be the one prosecuted for defamation of character or some crap.

in any large scale even the rural areas like here would be on their own anyway, recent events have shown this to be true, the guys on the ground do what they can but they are hampered by lack of resources, and I don't think the big wigs in their ivory towers even know where the south west of England is and don't care, every winter there is flooding, this year there was snow, and we get cut off from the rest of the country. it happens every year without fail.
and a lot of money is lost to businesses in the south west as a result because they cant get the goods to the customers.

the US is going the same way as the UK, EG OUR cops will NOT turn out for Burglary ( unless suspect is still on property) Shop lifting, Begging, Vagrancy, Anti Social behaviour, criminal damage, vandalism, trespass, theft from offices, workshops, garages or gardens, theft of or from vehicles etc. But make a politically incorrect statement about minorities and they have you in minutes

Okay, I know it is an old thread but I thought I would bring it back to life a bit. Based on tittle, I am going to assume the OP meant not on your own for the hour but for a substantial amount of time or maybe for the foreseeable future -- WROL type statement. Something like this ;=== News cast announcement: The Mayor and Local P.D. Chief just announced that due the National Emergency -- all local emergency services and / or law enforcement services are N OT available and will not be available in the near future. All citizens are urged to take precautions to preserve life and property.

Now with those parameters I would immediately go into lock down mode. I would break out all my firearms and get them ready for action. I would station fire extinguishers in all rooms and ready for fast access. I would then get all water reserves filled up (bathtub bobs, spare pots and pans filled with water. (I already store water but more is better). Grab the window black out curtains (black plastic and fleece blanket) and tape them in place. Close windows but leave master bedroom window open about 1 inch at the bottom, as vent and spy hole. Blockade entrance doors and leave furniture and household items over turned tossed around the floor as trip hazards and noise makers. Put small cast iron grill in master bathroom (vent for fumes). Get emergency radio and laptop into Master Bedroom walk in closet (safe room) and hunker down.

Now how is that for a start? What are your plans or what would you do. Better to think about it now than when you hear that announcement.

depends wether I'm at work or not,if home, lockdown and trying to get my family to my place,at work,I'd prolly leave and walk home taking a more secure route what the shortest would be.
then take out my firearms, load 'em,load all mags, place some ammo readily available, listen to emergency broadcasts and plan accordingly.

we are on our own right now,,,,all they do for the most part is give the public a hard time for a driving infraction ,when you do happen to need one it is hours before the Police show up and in that time the PERP will kill maim rape or rob and be long gone by the time THE POLICE SHOW UP

THE POLICE ARE A CLEAN UP CREW,,,,,THEY COME IN AND PICK UP THE PIECES AFTER THE CRIME HAS BEEN DONE.................................

They don't even do that most of the time. They're just there to file a report.

I was robbed once,at my BANK on the way back to my car......................I sat in the parking lot for 4 hours ,,,,,,,the police never showed up,,,,,,no blood no weapons so I was not worth the time to bother with,,,,,,I AM STILL BITTER ABOUT THAT

The question is, what would you do, not what the cops should do. Now being robbed coming out of the bank would make me a bit PO'd and them not coming to take a report would be more added irritation, In a WROL, we would not be going to the bank and if we did, we would not be leaving our firearms back in the vehicle.

Question if at home, what would you do after hearing the announcement? Block teh doors, barricade, bug out and how?

If at work, what would you do to get home? Walk, drive, carry GHB, travel by day or by night?

I haven't seen a policeman to speak to for 20 years-since I left the city, they have closed all the rural stations, the nearest police station is in a small city 30+ miles away, that's at least 45 minutes drive on our roads.
police in Britain do not patrol the streets, maybe they do in the city centres but that's all, police do not stop crime they only react to it, if its "minor" crime like theft or burglary they just give you a crime number for your insurance company, THEY DO NOT ATTEND, but make some remark about a transgender person and they'll be on you like a ton of bricks!!!!

it would depend on where you lived and why they had walked off

what you do will depend greatly on where you live,a little place like where I am would just be another day,now move it to a larger menu ,I am armed at all times because the looters and thugs will be out in force

we have known for a long time in the South west of England that if anything like a catastrophe happens we are on our own, that's not just Police, but Government- national AND local, medical services-doctors, hospitals, dentists, ambulance out here in the countryside will more likely have rotor blades than 4 wheels, we still have fire brigades but they are part time not full time.

He should have been shot on the spot, hopefully fatally.
