Rotory has been out of use for a very long time so I can't blame the teens... apparently they don't watch older movies, I thought it kinda funny to watch them struggle, I still have problems with cell phones and I'm sure they would die laughing at me :)

experienced this years ago too,when I took my oldest son to tech museum,but boy when they figured it out I almost had to drag them away from the phones..
I feel you Mav,now I have to rely on him when it comes to some modern tech issues.
 
Our exchange was Emerson. My grandmother's exchange was Fleetwood. You gave your number as the exchange name followed by a 5 digit number. Anyone in your exchange could be dialed with the 5 digit number. In a different exchange you dialed a 7 digit number with the first two digits corresponding to the first two letters of the exchange. Emerson = 36. Fleetwood = 35.

I remember dealing with party lines, the only number I can remember that was on the wall was to the local sheriff department 4-9475 I don't know why I still remember that number.... strange.
 
Pretty certain that is what I look like when trying to use hunny smart phone. . .

Back when I was staying with my dad at the hospital, I would go sleep at sis and bils house. I was about to leave to go back up to the hospital but misplaced my cell phone. Saw my bils phone sitting on the counter thinking how hard could this really be? I accidentally called his sister at 4 am.. Have no idea how I did that one. Needless to say I gave up and finally found mine.
 
I did have a few chuckles watching the video. I can work a smart phone, I sometimes have to help the wife with hers but I use a good old fashioned flip phone. That works for me.
 
My crash course in cell phones

Wife taught me the computer and taught me how to use my iphone. She bought me my first smart phone the iphone 3, she told me to follow the instructions and keep it plugged in as she was leaving for Seattle, she called me to inform me she made it but apparently I didn't make it that far in the instruction, page two I think is the furthest I got, she called again and still I had no clue how to answer the g'damn phone so I called her on the house phone, she told me I had to slide the arrow right, I didn't even ask her to explain slide he arrow right to me. Anyway, she called the iphone again later that evening, she eventually called the house phone given up calling me on the iphone. Four day's later she made it back home, the next morning she wanted my iphone to show me how to use it, told her I was really busy and can we do it tomorrow ok sure, where is the phone, I told her I got to look for it as I started walking to the kitchen for some coffee and wouldn't you know it, she followed me... In short I learned a valuable lesson, don't put cell phones in the fireplace, the iphones don't like fires, it made a loud hissing sound and a pop and stunk to high heaven, She never did replace the iphone 3. In the end, I was really missing pagers and bag phones

A little over a year she (I think she finally cooled off) picked me up a iphone 4 and showed me how to use it like how to slide the arrow on the screen, a fxxken touch screen, I still would have been trying to figure that damn iphone 3 out to this day. When I was wanting a computer she gone out of her way to teach me how to use the computer, perhaps she was still haunted by the iphone 3, I'm just guessing here? Now, I did leave out a bunch of drama around the iphone 3, I just chalked it up with her having some form of mood swings.
 
yes we have a land line, when I worked in the telephone exchange I was told this was on a different circuit and would work even when the power grid was down, not sure if that is true anymore, it was some time ago.
 
Yeah.back up generators or what ever will last for so long.then run out power or fuel or what ever.i figure even a solar generator will even shut down eventually when it's not getting enough direct sun light. .
 
Most classic land lines were powered by a battery-backed up system. So power glitches/outages wouldn't affect phone operations. But without the ability to recharge, those batteries will drain.

Yep, degradation would be the rule the minute the power goes out. People will need to be prepared and resourceful!
 
They work without electricity.

Only as long as phone company has power during a outage if i figure right.to me.that means if they lose all power.including back up generators. So do those phones.but yet.that's only if i figure right.
 
I got the latest iPhone and it dosent have any buttons, but is all touch screen now. I’m still getting used to it some. Siri is pretty good, and talks to you, but the voice recognition still needs to get better. I gave her a female Australian voice and it’s getting closer to what they had on Star Trek all the time. All I know is that having gps, a computer that can answer almost anything, and a flashlight all rolled into one that fits into your pocket is pretty amazing. We live in a pretty cool time.
 
Heck, I remember when we could pay an extra charge to use tone instead of pulse with the phones. It save a few seconds. We didn't mine the lost time & didn't pay the surcharge. I think at some point they dropped the extra charge. If I remember, some of the 'new' phones had a switch where you could choose tone or pulse.

I just paid off my I phone 8. I think there has been 4 more made since then.. I can’t keep up.
