It is too bad you are so far away but that is why I am trying to set up a get together for as many as possible that can travel. It will be somewhere in the middle of the country and I am working with some on this site and have been talking to guys from my last unit as well to see if we could use their land. As for the gun I recommend you go out and find a range that rents firearms. Talk to the people who work there and rent/hold as many guns as you can. This is the best way to find a gun that fits you. There is no one size/caliber that fits all, but the 9mm is an easy one to use and can have some decent stopping power with the right bullets. But really go to a range and rent away, shoot anything you think you may like and see if it works for you. Everyone can make recommendations or spout credentials but you have to find a weapon that fits you. There are also classes for first time gun users that teach the basics and allow you to shoot many different kinds of guns. Do some Internet searches or go talk to some of the local gun shop owners. They will know where to go for those sort of things. My best recommendation for a new shooter is learn the basics and try,try,try until you find the gun for you. Let me know if you can't find a place like I am talking about and I will ask the owner of the business I work for to see if he knows anything out your way in IL.

Yeah I had one for my brother this evening, well maybe more than one, and it is terrible to loose another member of the SO community. It has been a bad month for those guys and he was an amazing human being. I wish I had the privilege of knowing him personally but my condolences go out to his family. He was taken by another mentally disturbed individual who did not get the treatment needed. Seems like a very common thread to all of these shootings. I hope that something can be done to get these people help earlier so these situations don't happen anymore but with our current government I really doubt it.
I think the govt is behind the killings...to coincidental...the guy who had his guns confiscated hadnt done anything wrong...was a collector and sold guns....I dont know...so scary right now to be in America...wish I had the money and means to just leave the country!

This is going to be a rough couple of years and to be honest I am not sure if our Country will come out the other side the same. Most of he American people just trudge along with blinders on thinking everything is fine and the government will fix it but that is not the case. We are in a lot of trouble and our Commander in Chief just keeps talking about shrinking the military and pulling out of all foreign Countries. He is attempting to remove all ground troops from Europe which would greatly lengthen our response time to a crisis but he isn't concerned. He wants all troops out of the Middle East by the end of 2014. Leaving a power vacuum with a battle for control of that whole area. We are screwed to put it bluntly. They will attempt to take away all of our weapons removing the final line of defense against government take over of everything. Disarm the citizens and no one can stop them. I am hoping that Congress comes to its senses and stops this ridiculousness before it gets out of hand but who knows what will happen. That's why I say arm your self now with what you can and get as much ammo as you can to protect you and your family.

I think there is some "Brainwashing" going on too. These people are in counseling and on SERIOUS psychotropic drugs. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but this kind of thing is just tooooooo odd.

I know...I just dont understand it...even my husband doesnt believe anything will happen but I'm soooo scared cuz I just feel something big is coming down...not sure I'll survive it but so scared for my son and I even if we do....feel so alone and just wish we could leave the country right now...a country to blind to see what is even happening to it....nobody is standing up for America and those like Chris Kyle get shot down... behind their backs....
Alabaster, I completely agree it is really out of hand and I am not a conspiracy nut either, but all of this happening after the re-election is just really weird and too coincidental for me, even being a Military guy for so long, and used to taking orders and ignoring certain things ...... This just feels like a set up to remove all say that the people actually have in this Government. All these new drugs that are messing up people so bad and not helping at all? Very strange to me no? I need to get the rest of my 1/2" steel and finish my basement bunker room ASAP! It won't be perfect but with the concrete rebar and plate steel I should be able to keep the family safe for a while. Looking into an NBC filter as well but expensive and I have no connection to get a deal on that. I just don't understand how people don't put 2 and 2 together here? Are people that blind now? Just not sure what to do now and I have never been concerned until this week with all that's happened.
I completely agree and I am picking up another gun tomorrow. It's time to go to condition yellow as Alabaster said, and bring it in tight. Protect your family at all costs. Everyone in this country is blind to what's happening. They think everything is great and yet our economy is collapsing, people are starting to escalate the violence already and I think it's just the beginning. I pray for everyone and that everyone has at least something to protect themselves or a secret out of the way place to go because it may be time to go to that place or tighten up and get ready to fight.i wish it were different but it is BAD!

It is terrible and it is a huge lose to the Special Operations community, and the Teams. I did not have the honor of knowing Chris Kyle, but I have seen a lot if blood and death during my 15 years in the Military, and I did have the privilege of working with the SOCOM community when I was a Helicopter Crew Chief and Gunner. Chris was a great man, great operator, and a man with a big heart who was willing to help anyone who needed it. I offer my condolences to his friends and family and Chief we will meet one day on the other side. Fair winds and following seas.
Thank you so much....I will be taking your advice. Really scared cuz I dont know of any "safe" place to go but wish I had the money to get out of the country right now...with son...until all this hopefully passes in four years...or maybe it never will...so much has happened in just the past month...cant see we'll make four years without either being captured, imprisoned and/or killed at this rate. That's why I'm so scared and coming here...nobody around me will even listen...

Hello Kiddo. Your statement about not being that mean just shows how teriffic of a woman you really are. The only thing you can do is prep for you and your son. I've never met your son, but he sounds like a boy that has a good head on his shoulders. Even if I don't know him, tell him for me that I for one am proud of him for helping you. One person said something about people giving you advice and not to think about their experience and credencials. Well, would you take flying advice from someone that has never flown? This is the same thing. Some of us here that have experience also have different thoughts on things, but we have all been there, not like the flying instructor that has never flown. Even though our views differ a bit, we are all pretty much on the same track. All these people that give you advice, ask them how many fire fights have they been in or how many autopsies they have been to and seen how different ammo does different damage. I understand that some are just trying to help, but how can you help someone if you have not been there. Like the ones that tell you about a revolver and a semi-auto. YOU have to really think about it. Why is it that most Law Enforcement Agencies and even our military have gone to the semi-auto? A semi-auto is as simple to use as a revolver and has alot more round capacity. When TSHTF comes the ones that want to kill you and take everything you have stored won't come one at a time. They will be comming in gangs. So YOUand YOU alone have to think if you want to fire 6 rounds and get killed trying to reload, or you want to be able to fire 15 rounds and just press a button and reload in a matter of seconds. All these things YOU and only YOU have to think about. You seem to be a very smart person (for a woman)( just joking). You seem to have enough common knowledge to make up your own mind of which is best. like alot of the guys have said, go to the range and try different weapons and see what is more comfortable for you. It's been a very trying day for me so far....dh actually approached me and asked me just what I think I'm doing with all this prepping stuff? When I tried to talk to him about it he got very angry and started saying I was crazy....started asking me where I'm getting all these crazy ideas from and got very confrontational....I tried to talk to him rationally but the more I'd say the angrier he would get...He doesnt really want to hear it....His world is going to work, coming home to a clean house and supper on the table....we dont usually talk....He's been going in and out of the house all day...dont know where he's going but keeps leaving and coming back....I dont feel like arguing any longer with him and so the last time he was here I just told him to forget about everything I said...that I'm not going to be prepping and that he's right about everything....He said I've just gotten some bad info online and I need to stop listening to crazy people who think the worlds coming to an end...said everything is going to be fine and I just said okay and now he's fine again....I'm feeling drained....wishing I could just leave the country...no money and stuck here with a clueless man who will prob just sit and cry when his "fantasy world" collapses around us. Please pray for me and my son....feeling pretty down and depressed right now. He cant work the pc well and I delete my history when I get off here...never told him what websites I go to.

It's like I told you before "he is the idot for not loving you and supporting you". In a marrage, we should support each other and not cut each other down. I think you did the right thing. If you have an attic that is big enough to store things that he wouldn't find, that is a good place for him not to see what you are saving. I still have to say " you are a hell of a WOMAN". Just don't give up. Things will get worst, but just keep on doing what you are doing. With Gods help you will be fine. Time for supper, so I will be back in about an hour. Keep your chin up. Later.

Well Kiddo, Im so full right now feel like a glutton. Don't know if you are still on here but if you are I hope you don't lose courage. I know it can be depressing at times but if we stop, it will only be worst. Then we will not be ready when TSHTF. Dont quit Sweetie. A fello prepper just showed up and he thinks we can buy some storage containers for cheap. We would like to get at least 3. Want to put them together. Then we will have a bigger area of protection. let me know if you think of anything else.
I'm not quitting....just have to be more careful I guess....dont really trust my dh. It's sad to feel that way, but, I just dont....He was acting so weird earlier, started quoting me on stuff and saying I was talking totally crazy about all this preparing for a catastrophe that I was afraid to say anything any more to him...so I wont be in the future. Just wish you all lived closer...
