I'm driving down the road, and I see a small paper bag. I generally avoid ANY debris on the road, but I see plenty don't.

So, I got to thinking...if you want to have caltrops (spikes to pop tires) on a road, you'd want to disguise them, to actually have them work (otherwise, someone will just slam on the brakes, etc.)

So, if you had a board with nails sticking up, and put it in a crumpled up paper bag...this sitting on the road would likely be driven over, (thinking it's just an old fast food bag), when really, it would be a tire killer.

In a SHTF situation, part of our defense will be making nearby roads pretty impassable. (with only one way in or out via vehicle, and preferably, a way that isn't that apparent). Ideally, the obstructions would look accidental, like a staged car accident, downed power pole, etc.

While nothing is full-proof, it certainly would create a lot of racket to make passable, for anyone who wanted to move vehicles through. Which should give us a lot of warning.

Wise. Most looters are opportunists, and will want easy access to their targets. Every thing you can do to keep yourself hidden will prolong your security. My attitude is to avoid confrontation, it's a lot safer than firefights.

It will work, its a tactic used here to rob poeple on the freeways and major roads, they put a piece of concrete or two or three bricks insinde a plasic shopping bag, motorist hitting the bag usaully stop to esses the damage to the vehicle, then bye bye cellphone, money and anything they would consider valuable. Like your way of thinking, turning the tables.

Yeah, I thought of it being a way for robbers to get you as well. Stopping while on the road for any obstacle after shtf is unwise.

This is genius but I've done it before doesn't work on kevlar tyres, my tyres. But perhaps you are onto something. In a SHTF situation it is a good idea along a nearby street other people ae preppers and we've agreed to fortify their house because it is on a steep hill if we can't get to swartberg.

where I live there is only one way in-to a dead end-same way out again, in SHTF I am removing all the local signposts, there mostly wood anyway so will be going on the log burner. I don't use major highways-not that there is much of that around here-and usually use back country unclassified roads, most people use the main roads and don't use the back roads.

something in a bag is a great idea.there's always some sort of trash on both sides of the road around here.that includes the heavy duty bags that livestock feed comes in.so a board with spikes in it.or something else that'll take out the tires.and/or something that'll mess up the bottom side of any vehicle.if possible.

the board with nails sticking out is a good one, we call them "hedgehogs" over here(small indigenous animal covered in bristles).

One year during Halloween when many are out pulling tricks and throwing eggs a group of teens put a concrete block in a shopping bag and set it in the road . Knocked the front end out of a car and caused minor injureys to the driver .

Kids would put dog Sh-t in a bag, set it on a porch Halloween night, light it on fire and ring the bell. When the person stomped out the fire, squish:confused:. Male children are dangerous animals!

Sorry to say i was also one of those nasty animals when i was young, but only to the teachers that gave us a real hard time, have to say we serenaded those we liked. [emoji4]

I do try to avoid something lying in the road but it depends on whats coming the other way.

I rigged a mouse trap to torpex. The trap hits the cap and boom! Twenty ounces of gunpowder, thankfully I've got barrels of the stuff from former bouncing bombs.

If the police is gonna come and pay you a visit, dont ask why. That stuff is illegal over here unless you are a licensed demolitions expert.

This is a 2 lane rual road wher you drop over a hill and around a curve then repeat . I run 30 to 45 mph on it . Some folks seem to forget and try to run hyway speeds . I have seen a vehicles that whipped around a curve and ended up under a farm Combine .

I usually do between 40-50 on rural roads, but I know them like the back of my hand and I know where the danger spots are.

I know this road well , I own the place I grew up . My folks been here since 1700's . Never know when someones cattle or horse has gotten out and grazing on the road side or a farmer is out with a tractor and equipment just over the hill .
One Halloween a bunch of kids hung a manaquine where the tree tops grow over the road and would swing it out in front of anyone driving home after dark . Little Bratts Halloween is just around the corner this year .

we get to know when its harvest time, or spraying time, or muck spreading time, so we know when and what to avoid. animals don't get out much around here, its been several years since I saw any loose animals, and its usually sheep.

I drive like a grandma...though apparently, I'm pretty good when I need to be (avoided driving into an overturned black SUV last year, that was in the middle of the Interstate, at 4am, while raining, with no streetlights at all).... Was a pretty close call, and there have been others where my driving skill was put to the test, and I avoided an accident (or worse, just death, as that SUV would have killed us dead, no doubt)...

yeah, wife drives slowly in the lanes, she thinks I drive too fast sometimes.

I have to admit that when driving my Wifes new Cruze with its small high output engine it makes our road feel like a F1 track and I start to kick it up a little .
Last time I was on the Interstate traffic was near 80mph and there was a piece of exhaust around 4' long in my lane I managed to straddel it some how without cutting a tire .

I usually go 60 on the highway, 70 if traffic is light. But, I do stick to the slow lanes.

I do 60-65 on the highway, the speed limit is 70 but most are doing over 80 some nearer 90.

the main road i pull out onto from the road i live on.is 60.i keep it between 55 and 60 on that streetch of road.but other folks drive it 70-80.if not faster..and yes.i've had folks come up on me and drive WAY to close..the highway i take to the town where we do our primary shopping, and other things.70 and 75 between towns.i go 70..and i use cruise control on the highways..
