I can still dodge a tree easier than a lightning bolt. Having been indirectly hit (meaning it hit near me, and I got some of the residual, not a direct strike) 3 times, I can tell you it isn't fun. Only knocked me out once though... Third time, knocked out my buddy (he still had a foot in the water). Thank goodness he coughed it up after chest compressions. I did NOT want to mouth my buddy, hehe....
Sounds odd, I know, but I DO live in the lightning capital of the world, so.....
First time, I was a little kid, hit the house, and arced out of the light socket. Fried me in the hand as the power went out.
Second time, I was on the beach. The storm looked over, but wasn't. Hit the beach (making a nice fulgarite), and I was about 10' away. Knocked me down. My body tingled for a couple hours, and I had a pounding headache for the rest of the day.
Third time, I just got a good jolt. We were tubing in a river, and got to the exit. Trying to beat it. We saw lighting hit all around us, so wanted to get out quick. We did, and just as I got out, I saw the strike (don't even remember hearing it or anything), and felt my buddy fall behind me (he still had a foot in the water). Had to CPR him after pulling him further on the bank.
