Dunno what it means but some UK weathermen are saying they fear a Galviston type event if people dont heed the warnings ??? Galviston???

Galveston had a really bad hurricane event near the turn of the century. They had so many bodies they had to bury them at sea, then they washed back up on the beach. Pretty much had to rebuild the whole place.

Ah thats what they must have been talking about a consistent wind driven tidal surge, absolutely deadly we had one in the Uk in the 1950s we saw dozens drowned in the UK and HUNDREDS drown in Holland.

Son 1 & DIL just moved from Victoria back to Galveston area. He called yesterday saying that they were having a hurricane party and my sis is near Houston on the northwest side. I'm more to the east of them and not expecting heavy rains till Sun. We're still under tornado watch and probably will be until middle of next week. At least temps have cooled off. The good thing about us is that the Gulf is shallower where we are at so even if Harvey did back track, it shouldn't get built back up to a 4. At least that is what hunny tells me. The worst this area has ever seen is a 2, but I will never say never.

Hope your sis and mom are doing ok Jim.

I'm about 150 miles from the coast. Here, we're safe. We've had maybe 3" of rain so far. Strong winds this morning.

But down at the coast is another story. I was watching last night and the eye was sitting right next to Rockport, partially on & off the water. It sat there an hour or two... unbelievable. Most hurricanes move at 10 mph. It wasn't moving at 2 mph. That means significantly more rain and severe winds. I expect to hear LOTS of severe damage later today.

This morning the eye has moved more and is between Beeville & Victoria, right in line with the map previously posted. A question will remain how long will it float in that area... it's still close enough to the water to be picking up LOTS of moisture to continue flooding.

My prayers for those who didn't leave the area. I think Corpus Christi will have minimal damage and that area is much more built-up than Rockport, maybe that is one of the blessings.

Sorry your son wasn't smart enough to see this as an opportunity to come visit mom for a few days! Wish him well through this. When I was young, and stupid, we went surfing in Daytona during one of the hurricanes. Six ft waves were hard to come by in Daytona.... we were stupidly fearless, like most young people.

someone on another sire mentioned that.then someone else chimed in,about dentist and dental records as well..

They are telling people if they want to stay, write their name and social security number on their arm with a sharpie so their bodies can be identified.

When you get a little ahead later on look for a water filter. Storage is great, but being able to make drinkable water on demand is even better. Glad youre not in the direct path anyways.

i suddenly remembered the 3-16 gallon barrels, that DR pepper came in..i had already cleaned them out good.and filled them with water.when i first got them..so i got um out.opened them up.in which i ran a hose down to the bottom.and ran water into them, one at a time.now their more then full enough.and have fresh water in them..so thats another 48 gallons of water,to what i already have....

A late-night update. Watching Austin news, best source right now.

A few counties including mine are just getting dumped on. Areas getting 4-5 inches/hour rain rates. I've had 8" of rain earlier today, probably 10"+ now. Some areas have had 14" of rain just today. Forecast says there may be 20" more over the next few days in my area.

I'm safe. Again no chance of flooding for me, I'll have to check on my neighbor in the morning, they have 20 acres that flood regularly and I helped them do some trenching a while back to keep water out of their house.

News is saying to not drive on any roads right now.

Everyone, use extreme, EXTREME caution. Take care of your families & your properties. And check on neighbors who might be in need. As preppers, this is a time for us to bless those around us.
