Howdy from Georgia!
The first place to start is between your ears, LOL.

Prepping is a mindset. It's being able to look beyond your current cushy existence and accept the fact that all your creature comforts can disappear one day.

Prepping is getting it into your head that things may not always be as they are now. Something called "Normalcy Bias" is what stands in the way of preparedness. Once you understand that, you can start evaluating how you will survive various situations and be able to evaluate what you need in order to be able to stand a chance of surviving without being at the mercy of someone else.

Prepping is deciding that you will NOT be at someone else's mercy if you can possibly avoid it.

Thanks man, Hey is it ok if I come to you for any questions?

But seriously, normalcy bias is what you have to first overcome.

Here is the textbook definition:

Normalcy bias is a cognitive bias which leads people to disbelieve or minimize threat warnings. Consequently, individuals underestimate the likelihood of a disaster, when it might affect them, and its potential adverse effects. The normalcy bias causes many people to not adequately prepare for natural disasters, pandemics, and calamities caused by human error. About 70% of people reportedly display normalcy bias during a disaster.

you most likely already know it - saw some of it with the current Virus bug outs >>> but your area is prime for a "Golden Wave" heading north out of the potential SHTF disaster of NJ, NY, CT and MA ....

that should be a top SHTF prep besides the SHTF usuals ....
