I'm back again. Life got busy then my partner and I broke up. I kept prepping through all of it, even though partner and family thought I was being paranoid. Turned out good though because New Zealand went into level 4 lockdown (our highest level) and I have enough supplies to sit back and chill with my kids 🙂

My partner and I live in the North Island of New Zealand with our kids and dogs. Both of us are prepper-minded and have been our whole adult lives. Looking forward to being around other like minded people
Welcome Neighbour Don’t forget to turn out the lights before moving to Australia : ) I’m sure you shall much enjoy here .

Hi from the North Island, too! I'm in Palmy, new to prepping but learning lots, improving my bushcraft, thinking about bug-out vs bug-in options, etc.

Feeling pretty lucky to be in NZ these days! Moved back from Aussie late last year, that timing is seeming better and better (and like an accidental bug-out move in itself, ha!)

Hope all is well for you, wherever you are in the North Island ... : )

Hi Tom Doig, if you're still in Palmy then I'm just over the hill from you in the Tararua district 🙂

Would love to hear about your prepping there. I’ve always imagined NZ to be the ultimate place to bug out to.
I might be biased but being on the arse end of the world has it's benefits. We're too far away and too small to bother sending nukes or EMP attacks against.

Mostly my prepping is for natural disasters, pandemics, and unemployment. So for me that means having 3-6 months of supplies in the house and as much savings as possible. This has come in handy multiple times, even before covid-19 flipped the world upside down.

I have young kids so I've always planned on digging in rather than bugging out, but I still have go bags (clothes, food, water, documents, first aid kit, medications, etc) in case we have to evacuate quickly for whatever reason.

I don't have a firearms license but I do have a length of steel rebar that could do some damage. It's not as good as a gun but it's what I've got 🤷‍♀️

We all have some restrictions on what we can do. Here we can buy military grade guns, even though I question if this is a good thing sometimes. But having something to defend yourself is always a good idea. I don’t prep for any one thing or scenario, but just think it’s wise to be prepared for whatever life can throw your way. I like to think of what’s most important, and for me that’s food and water. So I started with ensuring we had enough resources to make a few months. Of course prepping is like that table leg thing where you shave one down to prevent a wobble and then need to shave another and so on. Once you have food covered then you need shelter, protection, etc. it can go on and on, lol. I think living responsibly and thinking about ways to ensure you can provide for yourself and your loved ones during unexpected hard times just makes sense. I wish you the best in your endeavors

Define ‘military grade’? I sure can’t buy an M2 50 caliber or an M249 SAW.
Even here we have some restrictions, but I can go buy an AR 10, AR 15 or many other high capacity weapons any day of the week. With a license/permit I can get fully automatic weapons easily too. Just more money. I am glad I can and do have firearms, but I am a reasonable and responsible person. I do question a lot of the people I’ve met being able to own rapid fire weapons though….I’m just not sure it should be so easy

Do you research, neither of those are military grade , if so they would have select fire capabilities , not even close to the same as our military. I question people with fast cars but they have the right to own them. Let see you get a fully auto easily, you will be waiting at least 8-10 months to get your paperwork, I hate it when people just spew a bunch of bull crap.

He is demonstrating that he know as much about weaponry as he does in selecting a good president. little and none.

So am I, and I am also a law abiding citizen but I am forbidden from purchasing firearms or ammunition without the approval of The Peoples Republik of Kalifornia. That is tyranny.
There are 49 other states to choose from. Personally I would consider moving more because of water resources over the ability to own an AR, but we all have our priorities, lol.

I don’t actually know what the exact definition of military grade is, but I’m sure it’s pretty subjective to each individual. I do know one thing for sure though. Being able to discuss things without bashing someone else over their difference of opinions is a sign of intelligence. I could bicker back and fourth about how an AR10 can fire a substantial round as fast as I could squeeze the trigger. But honestly, your not worth the effort, I don’t care to do rude here.

New Jersey and New York aren’t much better than The Peoples Socialist Demokratic Republik of Kalifornia.
