The filters look like standard 40mm nato filters but they arnt they are 60mm meaning you won't be able to get standard nato filters for them without an attachment which may increase your supply costs for new filters over other models with standard 40mm nato filters.

Have I used this mask no, but it looks a lot like the british s6 etc.. chinese have a similar model for half the price.

I'd be worried about strap wear, and you might consider a replacement strap if you plan on practicing a lot with it. as I'm not sure how those bands will hold over rubber type material over what appears to be esastic band.

none the less it looks like it will work. This looks well suited for cold weather. I say this because of the snow barrier air outlet. and extra material on the nose.

None the less, it looks like it will work. imo I'd feel weird getting a 60mm filter.. the only masks I would consider getting non 40mm nato filters for are the m50,m51,m52 US and British masks JSM

Or hazmat systems of higher protection levels.. remember gas masks are tactical and are not the best protection available against hazmat situations.

Take what Ashley says with with a shot of whiskey or hell the whole bottle. Anyways I have this one.

Ive become disenchanted with gas masks they are only useful in a very small range of circumstances and if they weren't manufactured recently their failure rate is off the charts, I guess something is better than nothing but, ones that truly work well are a butt load of cash. Through my research I have found a cheaper alternative. A 3m half mask With complete bio/chem niosh filters. If you need eye protection as well get some swim goggles. Tyr special ops swim goggle fit well with the mask and don't mess much with your field of vision. I was able to continue shooting accurately with this set up.

Nice... Thank you so much for the post. An alternative and a cheap solution. Which niosh filters do you purchase? I've been browsing and there too many. Any specifics?

In Gas masks what would one suggest for children? I have a 16 yr whom I know will fit the med- large, but what about a the littler ones. As a family wise we have to think about two boys ages 6, 8, my nephews and my other little girl age 3?

I know nothing about gas mask, but the way things are going,it's time for my family to start learning more about them and get some ourselves. We also have a toddler.I can find them for kids, here's one link-

http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&ke...vptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_28bxlarl09_b

but I still need to do more research to see what would be the best bang for the buck.

Thank you, and I know what you mean, its why I asked as well.

The m61 is Finnish, which is why it has a 60mm filter, this particular mask has not been manufactured since the late 80's. Any gas mask on the market, unless the filter specifies, only filters such chemicals in the C.S family. Further more, biological or chemical agents penetrate skin cells just as easily as entering your lungs. If you do not have a chemical protective outer gear, CPOG or MOPP, you are just delaying your demise. If you are purchasing these simply for blocking C.S (Tear Gas), then any will work and the filters rarely need replacing. Like previously posted, your local Army Navy surplus may have the U.S M40, this mask has several models and has is still in production.
