Hi,
I will be part of the Aussie contingent although I live in Vietnam 8 mths of the yr. I have been semi retired for the past 6 yrs and work in Australia as a training manager.
I live in a part of Vietnam that does not have many English speaking people but survive quite easily.
I do have to be prepared for emergencies and have a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for every contingency. I have a wealth of knowledge on weapons, fighting, survival, small boats, 4x4 driving, communications, first aid etc.
It is amazing what can be found on forums (I cured my Kidney Stone for 10 cents) and You Tube DIY (unlimited gadgets and useful DIY items to suit the novice to advanced prepper).
I don't anticipate writing too much in the prepper's forums but recommend knowing the area you are living in and any area that you might move to (prior to moving). I always carry an SAS Survival Pocket Book when I go into a bush environment and recommend the SAS Escape and Evasion Book - more than anything else they give you things to think about or do when you're bored or have some free time.
I look forward to reading all the prepper forums.

Welcome, I for one will be looking forward to learning from your wealth of knowlage, first off tell me about that 10 cent cure for kidney stones, I get those every couple of years.

Hi,
My stone was caused from dehydration (I live in the tropics) – therefore I decided that the stone was acidic in nature.
I found a forum that had thousands of threads – for acidic stone (I was sure that people are much smarter than what Doctors give credit for), drink a level tea spoon of bicarb of soda (it's an alkaline) in 200mls of water (small cup) in between meals and drinks. Do this until stone breaks down (it took me 3 drinks and took other people that I passed the fix onto up to 7 drinks (all lived in the tropics). You'll know when you pass the remains of the stone out (pleasant sensation and a tinkle as it hits the toilet bowl).
It flushes your body and breaks down the stone – much better than the alternatives.

The other methods are olive oil, lemon juice individually or mixed together - but I have not tried the other methods (I didn't have the other type of Kidney Stones).

Nice, maybe you can tell us a few tales and experiences in Vietnam, I am very very interested in this!

Well Vietnam is interesting. I can do almost anything here. I started giving my rice crop away to poor people (no welfare here) and it was a great hit with local authorities. I will do the same again with my current stored rice with a box of noodles to each of approx. 70 families. The 10kg of rice and box of noodles will feed a family of 5 for 1 mth.

There are no building inspectors here in the Mekong and very basic inspections in the major cities for homes by the authorities.
That allowed me to design a 7m x 5m rest hut, 8m x 4.5m guest house (with walk in robe/storage and ensuite with septic tank), a 4.5m x 10m gym/garage, 3/4 size tennis court (where I reclaimed some land that was under water) but can park large vehicles on it - a fully enclosed compound of approx 1,000m2. I also did some home reno's as well. I want to build an eco friendly building and will design something for one of my in-laws as a trial.
I just bought a new car (a Kia SUV) here and an ex tourist boat 12m x 2m which is parked in the canal at the back of my property. I have several small 110cc fully auto motorbikes and several bicycles. I have a large generator to power my aircons (it gets hot here). I hope to go green (solar and wind) within the next 12 mths. I will be placing on a double roof and wooden blinds to lower the internal house temp within the next mth.

My in-laws were relatively poor when I married my wife and they have many home remedies - some are not tasty. Although I normally eat western food, I sometimes eat the snails, frogs, fresh water mini crabs, fish water shrimp, home grown chickens/ducks and other foods.
Although I bought a kayak, I hope to build a PVC paddle board and if successful, a PVC sail boat. The canals in the Mekong are better (faster) than some of the road systems.

I hope this gives some more info to Kenny Lee and others.

Strop2 welcome to the group. Looking forward to your contributions. Feel free to jump in a nd comment on any threads you feel the need to. Also, you can start your own threads.
Any questions, just ask.

I must be selective in what I write about but have a lot of knowledge in many areas. I am busy at the moment writing SOP for a Program I worked on last year. I keep putting it off, even though I've written 120 pages and only have another 80 pages to go. It will flow easy enough once I recommence writing. The SOP developed from a Risk Assessment/Appreciation I wrote in Jan 12 and I realized that I didn't have references or procedures to follow for that Program last year - which was very successful (for which I have been nominated for a training award).

I will end by stating that I don't know everything and I am always adding to my own knowledge base. I am at a time in my life where I can do almost anything I want and can actually be an active prepper with time on my side. PVC building projects are going to be very interesting.
It isn't all good for me, I re-damaged an old shoulder injury last year teaching speed work during fight training and had a shoulder reconstruction that wasn't perfect. I can still use a kayak but the shoulder is weak and I put on 20kg.

Hi,
I head back to Australia next week and heading bush, returning here end of May and back to Aus for 2 wks and returning. I will be doing some prepping on boat/car etc from July onwards and besides some travel - will go through the forums and see what I can value add or start up conversations. But you guys are doing well, so I'll see what I can do.

Hi Jay,

As per conversation, I'll see if I can call you next week.

I used the olive oil, lemon juice variation to cure my gallstones....over 6 years ago, with no return of the stones! That being said, I was praying for death to come quickly long about 3 hours into the process! But, it worked, without surgery and without spending any $$$. Would I do it again.....yes. Its been long enough that I am forgetting just how painful it was!

Blessings,

This is supposed to work with Gallstones as well. But it does matter what caused the Stones in the first place. A friend of mine was bragging about how he had a Kidney Stone and it went away. Low and behold two days later he had an attack and went in for surgery. The specialist Doctor inserted the stent in through his penis , up through the bladder and then opened it up at the left Kidney, unfortunately, the Doctor pushed the Stone to the side when he opened the retractable claw. My friend was then sent home for two weeks and returned for surgery. This time the Doctor was able to nibble away at the stone and it was broken down. The Stent was left inside my friend for a total of 4 wks before going back and seeing the Doctor, who said the stent could be removed. The Doctor grabbed the tubing that was coming out of the penis and pulled the Stent out. My friend had mass blood loss, went into shock and was taken to emergency was treatment. My friend was on the top medical cover in Australia and still had $7,000 out of pocket expenses.

You see why people go for the alternate treatments. Take care.

"Holy wrong way driver" Batman! I can't imagine how bad that must have been!
I better start drinking more water, in the hopes I never get a stone....
