With the recent incidents in the Ukraine making the news headlines (in Europe) daily, I think I will throw my opinion into the ring for comment. The USA has sent 1B$ to the Ukraine and the EU is sending 15B€ to help them out (buy them out) from Russian control. Where is this money coming from I ask? The EU has bailed out Greece, Spain, Portugal, Iceland and "I think" Ireland (maybe wrong on that one). The social systems in Europe are really something, supporting people who do not want to work as well as many that will work. The immigrants coming daily into Germany (mostly from Muslim countries) are in the 10s of thousands, all receiving "welfare" from the first day they arrive. Now with the extra money going to the Ukraine, I think it is just a matter of time (short time) before the governments have no more money to support their social systems, and say to their CITIZENS, sorry no money this month. CHAOS!! Ad to this scenerio a terrorist attack on the electric system - no lights, no gas, no cash registers working - again - CHAOS. Or throw in the possibility of Russia just re-taking the countries they lost with the fall of the Berlin wall - again - CHAOS. When civil unrest in the USA happens, it will domino over here really fast - collapse of the dollar (which is a big joke here anyway) - again - CHAOS. Anyone wonder why I am a prepper?

To be honest, I think Russia and the Ukraine BOTH have legitimate positions here, which is what makes the situation so tricky. They are BOTH right in their views, but only one can be the outcome.

The EU is (collectively) the world's largest economy, so I can't see it crumbling anytime soon. The US either for that matter. Not that it is impossible, but I don't think the powers that be would allow it to happen, for if it does, so goes their power.....

Morkerhorst I'm sure you saw the thread on the Ukraine here . Every body seems to Have a opinion . I'm wondering what the German public is saying about it . Your Country is alot closer and many there have lived under Communist control before . I agree all the leftist programs will come to a halt one day and lead to civil unrest . The problem with Socialism is sooner or later you run out of the other guy's money .

Hello Psalm 7 - your question is somewhat complex to answer and I will do my best to explain it. The first 14 years I lived in Germany was in "west Germany", and many of the west Germans had "no time" for anyone living in east Germany. They were (and still are) treated like step children. 11 years ago we moved to the former east Germany and bought a house. I found out that this was indeed "another world", something like a 3rd world country if you know what I mean. I opened a small fishing store and came into contact with many of the locals, and to my surprise, the majority of them wished it was "like it was before" (communism). I could not understand that attitude at all. So with this division of attitude it is really hard to answer your question with a direct answer. Those in the west believe that life will just go on like it is now, of course "sad" to see the events in the Ukraine, but think "it will never happen here". I have the "feeling" that many in the east are cheering and hoping that someday they will be back under the thumb of big brother. Again, that is my feeling, I have nothing to back that up with besides knowing many people here and knowing their attitude. Germany, on an "official level" is not really playing hard ball, because Germany is the largest importer/exporter of Russian goods (meaning Russia can and probably will - AGAIN - shut off the natural gas that powers this country). Germany has made some "low level threats" towards the so called invasion, by stating they will stop talking about VISA's (as if that was a big deal anyway). The individual country "Armies" in the EU are smaller than a State Charter (any state) of Boy Scouts, and they will do nothing to prevent aggression. Not only Germany receives the bulk of their gas/oil from Russia, but also all of the EU. Yes, in bed with the Devil. Many of the former USSR block nations are "afraid" that the Russian aggression will not stop with the Ukraine, but will slowly spread to include all those small, now independant countries. Whether those fears are legitimate or not, who knows? A few years ago Russia played the same game with Georgia, and they are still there occupying a large portion of that country. I think that was in 2008, can't remember for sure. I am personally certain that the biggest threat is like what you wrote in your last sentence - running out of other people's money. The attitude of being PC and letting in anyone - put them on the welfare roles and do NOT allow them to work for at least a year (that is pretty much EU wide) will definitely bankrupt all of Europe eventually, and I do not think it is in the "far future", but rather "is at hand". I am too old to make a huge change in life (like going back to the USA - which is on the leading edge of problems like here), so I trust in the Lord to provide and protect my wife and myself. However, we do not need to forget that the Lord gave us "eyes" to see with (the events taking place), a brain to think with (what do I do when--) and two hands to do something with (prepare while there is time). "Ps 7:17 I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high. Have a great day, and God bless.

Russia has been planning this for a long time, up to 4 years ago started issuing passports to Russian speaking Ukrainians. There has been recent extensive hacking and PC virus attacks on Ukraine. With Russia blocking Ukrainian war ships and sinking tankers to block the harbors - Russia has no intent to withdraw.

I worked in Mongolia for a year that was also under Russian rule for decades, they all like Russians - job for life, free housing etc. but that massive social system collapsed, there is no going back to the old communist system.

I agree Europe and USA on brink of financial collapse - to prevent disaster in 2008, the governments put interest rates at zero and started printing money (QE), what options do they have left?? print even more money!!, every country that started printing money has suffered catastrophic meltdown. There will be no one to bail out a world economic collapse.

Russia and China waiting for US civil war then during the distraction will launch biological weapons and nukes - we are in for a rough ride.

That wouldn't accomplish anything. Even IF they did, just compare the numbers and the tech. We have more missiles active than both of them combined. Then, add in the BMDS (ballistic missile defense system). While not full-proof, it will certainly mitigate the number of hits. And to what end? Do you think we are going to just stand by? No, we'll turn every major industrial center in both into a glass parking lot. And this would be extremely tragic, and something I hope NOBODY wants to see.

I think a lot of folks are a bit unaware of just how much of the US would be left after even a full-blown strike these days. Gone are the days of the Cold War, when 10 megaton nukes were the norm, and numbered enough to destroy the world many times over.... Now, most are under 3 megatons, and more precise (meaning less fallout, more focused on destroying targets). Thing is, in the US, EVERYTHING is spread out all over, and not just a few concentrated areas. China and Russia on the other hand, just a few major centers, and they are back to Medieval times.

There are enough mad leaders, where logic is not an overriding principle. The issue is a dramatically weakened USA by economic collapse and civil strife. Likely to start by Israel being nuked then a free for all.

USA citizens are highly charged and crazy they win the Superbowl then trash the city. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...s-ready-party-night-team-wins-Super-Bowl.html
Or food stamps are a day late and go crazy, what happens when all bank accounts are and there are no entitlement payments.

If I posted a moth ago that Russia is going to invade and take over part of Ukraine after the Olympics had finished - you would of thought I was mad but is is happening and the Russians are just laughing at the west and USA!

What ever weakness one sees in the U.S it is even more so in the other Nations of the world . It is easy to underestamate the American People and overestamate China and Russia . When it comes to starting a hot war with us they don't want none .
