well, during a physical I discovered a disturbing issue. I have a part of my heart that isn't getting enough oxygen. I'm only 52! I guess too much fried chicken in my lifetime.... So at 7 am tomorrow morning I'm going to have a heart cath to see where the blockage is and what to do about fixing it.
The moral of this story is get regular check ups. If I had put it off a heart attack would have been likely before long. Once you have one the muscle in that part of your heart dies and never comes back. Catching stuff early can make a huge difference in the outcome. I just kind of think of checkups as I do with any of my preps.

Yikes, good luck man.
Just had a physical myself. Got a tetanus shot too...(which is a good thing given as to how many rusty pieces of metal I encounter each weekend, lol)....

That's really tough, but at least you have caught it before any damage is done. Good luck tomorrow.

Dude, just found it, are you okay now?

Good luck tomorrow with your procedure Brent. I hope everything goes well and that the doc can figure out the whys. You'll be in our thoughts and prayer my friend. Thank goodness that the problem was found before a heart attack!

Oh sorry today!! Give an update when you can

Well, I'm still here! I feel like a pin cushion and a little beat up, but still alive. I have an artery that's 70% blocked, but it's in a hard to get place. Without opening my chest, ughhhh, it wasn't reachable thru the heart cath. It was kind of cool watching the whole procedure on 6 monitors. I didn't know you are awake for all of it. Anyways, they are adding two more meds for me to take for the rest of my life, yuk. The good thing though is as long as I stay on the meds and of course loose the 25 lbs around the belly, I will probably live a normal life span. Luckily, since I didn't have a heart attack, I can still do everything I've always done, just a little slower. Thanks for all the well wishes. Also, I've lost 4 lbs so far, nothing like this to motivate one. I also ate at Popeyes chicken, my favorite. I've decided I'm not giving up my favorite things, but it will be a lot fewer and further between indulgences now, and with smaller portions.
Back to that moral of this story, get a checkup every so often....

It's crap like this as why I don't wish for nor want any and especially a prolonged large scale SHTF, people that are wanting/wishing for a SHTF truly don't understand the consequences and Brent's case is an good example of these consequences!!

It sucks getting older without a doubt and to the young folks that may read this ....growing up is a lie ;)

Pretty much the only way to live. Never give up on the good things in life, the key is just moderation, in all things.

I was doing so well today, orange juice and a banana for breakfast.....then came in to work, and leftover cake....damn.

I've always been lucky with not really craving sweets. Now fried foods and red meat are another thing! We all have a kryptonite that we are weakened by. As you said, one important thing in life is its meant to be enjoyed, so don't give up things you really like completely. Just don't eat the whole thing!

It does seem to me that a lot of people I've met are looking forwards to shtf. I on the other hand really don't want to see the suffering and misery that comes with it. Sure, there are a lot of aholes in the world that I wouldn't shed an ounce of concern for, let's start with lawyers for instance, but so many will perish or suffer that are good people. How can you not have compassion for a child that just had lazy parents that never thought about being prepared.
I'm fine with my loss of availability of meds for instance as first I've lived a great and pretty full life, and second we all would loose weight and other health affecting contributors like junk foods quickly and decrease the dependence on them.

Better keep a close eye on yourself, hope you kick those extra 25 quick.

I've been on bed rest for one day and am allready about to go bats--t! I'll try to loose the weight slowly as I want to slowly make changes that stick. My son will loose by starving himself, then rebound it back on shortly later. My goal is 140lbs within 6 months. I'm 162 right now. Baby steps.....

Speaking of my son. He was a smoker. He tried chantex and quit with no problem cravings at all. He did say it made him have really vivid dreams though. That and those few people he hacked up anyways,,,,, seriously, the possible side effects of these new drugs is scary, luckily, other than the dreams he said it was easy.

Its a real pity that my uncle don't practice any more, he sharpened his skills under Prof. Chris Barnard, I'm sure he would have been able to fix up that ticker of yours. If you don't mind me asking what is your prognosis in the long run, will you have to do surgery in the long run or not?

Luckily, the blockage I have isn't on a main branch, but a smaller side one. The surgeon sain that they can put in a stint there, but they have to build a bridge of several stints to do it, and he dosent like to leave that much metal in someone. He has me on cholesterol lowering meds and a step up on my blood pressure med. as long as I keep both of those issues under control then the blockage I have should get smaller over time. Not go away completely, but get better, not worse. 70% blockage is "worse enough" in my opinion! Luckily, nothing else in the artery system feeding my heart looked bad at all. We talked about opening my chest to get access for the repair, and he felt that the risk outweighed the benefit. I great fully agreed there. The only bad thing about the new med, a beta blocker, is you can't just quit it cold turkey. You have to lower the dosage over a period of time. I worry about access to medical care from a prepping viewpoint. Hopefully, with the lost belly weight and a lower cholesterol diet, I could live without the meds in an emergency. Luckily I had allready started eating healthier in the last few years allready. It's just tough to erase all those years of too much steak and fried foods.

that's what I am saying... I've always been thinking that this is like that, I mean... you've got to use everything, but everything in moderation.

So I don't think that this is such a bad problem... I mean the vivid dreams are quite annoying but not that bad, plus I guess they are stopping soon later, isn't it?

I would like to get a vivid dream with Margot Robbie, definitely wouldn't need viagra then :D

I would imagine they will with time. Either way, smoking is so bad for your health, and wallet these days, it's worth any way you can get away from it. I can't preach here as I smoked as a teenager for ten years or so. I tried quitting multiple times before it finally worked. It's a really nasty (health wise) habit that's hard to break.

Good to hear your going to make it Brent. After I quit my high pressure VP job a year and a half ago I lost 35 lbs, my triglycerides dropped from 1600+ to 300, my eyesight improved and don't need to wear glasses now (doc can't figure out why) and I feel better than I have in years. I still eat everything that I always have, still enjoy a cigar and a shot now and then and avoid doctor's. Everything in moderation now.

I agree smoking is bad in any cases, no doubts!

Well it's been 8 days since I had a tube shoved up my arm and into my heart. The arm is still sore and weak. Guess I just don't recover as quick as when in my 20's. Anyways, I'm driving myself bats-it with lying around, so am going to go back and start light duty on the building today. Luckily I can mostly direct my son and his wife, but I will go insane if I have to watch tv any longer. I have 300+ channels and there's not crap worth of anything good. I guess I should be greatful that they didn't open my chest as that's a really tough recovery. Either way, back to the reason for this post, take care of yourselves. At least right now we have the luxury of time to heal if sick or injured. During an emergency you won't have that option. The most important tools a prepper can have are their mind and health. Everything else can be handeled with these.

I chewed but quit a few years ago never got into cigarettes though I never gave up my pipes nor the occasional cigar luckily none of our kids ever got into the habit.
I really miss a good flavored pipe. I used to smoke a cherry flavored blend of tobacco that smelled so good. After finally kicking cigarettes I figured it was best to just leave tobacco alone.

what did I get from walking? shin splint....do I leave my ass on the couch? hell no,just make those walks at a slower pace and increase the distance.
what I really don't understand is that the problems started after I used a pair of good training shoes,no problems with my combat boots.

I was thinking of that smoking, should I quit ?but the way old people are treated here in hospitals and home,I'd rather not spend any time there as a really old goat, it's appaling....
