No disrespect meant but this crisis portrays TX like a third world state, It looks like Venezuela because of a totally inadequate utilities network.
A lot of good news doesn’t get reported. Lots of Texans helping Texans. People are helping people clean out their houses. People are taking other people in, others are volunteering at warming stations. Yeah, people need to be more prepared ( myself included), but they are reporting the worst of the worst.

Hells Bells Texas is one crazy mofo state

Texas weather: State should pay soaring power bills, says Houston mayor

The mayor of Houston has called for the state of Texas to pay the - in some cases - astronomical electricity bills racked up by residents in last week's freezing weather.
"The bill should go to the state of Texas," Houston's Sylvester Turner told CBS News.
Some residents have reported bills in excess of $16,000 (£11,500) for a few days of usage.
Temperatures plummeted to 30-year lows, hitting 0F (-18C).
Much of Texas, which normally enjoys milder winter weather, was blanketed in snow.
The unusually cold weather across several southern US states claimed at least 70 lives.
Texas is recovering from the freezing temperatures, but many residents still have to boil water due to fears of contamination caused by low mains pressure.

Millions of Texans suffered power outages. Electricity supplies have largely been restored in the state, but just under 30,000 customers were still without power on Sunday afternoon, according to Poweroutage.us.
Texas has a deregulated energy market allowing consumers to chose between a number of suppliers. Most are on fixed-rate payment plans, but as temperatures plummeted many on variable-rate tariffs were faced with soaring costs.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which oversees the power system for most of the state, is being accused of not being prepared for the shortages.
Savings gone
Dallas resident and US Army veteran Scott Willoughby told the New York Times that he faces a $16,000 bill which had obliterated his savings.

Mayor Turner told CBS that when he was in the state legislature, he had filed a bill to ensure there was "adequate reserve" to prevent blackouts, but it was not considered by the state's leaders.
The mayor of the state's fourth largest city suggested the system was not up to the challenges of storms produced by climate change.
"All of this was foreseeable. I wrote about it in 2011. And so for these exorbitant costs, it's not the consumers who should assume those costs.
"They are not at fault for what happened this week."

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price also told CBS that help with bills should come from Texas and the federal government.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has called for action to ensure Texans "do not get stuck with skyrocketing energy bills".
"We have a responsibility to protect Texans from spikes in their energy bills that are a result of the severe winter weather and power outages," he said after meeting lawmakers.
President Joe Biden declared a major disaster in Texas on Saturday, clearing the way for more federal funds to be spent on relief efforts.
"Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programmes to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster," the White House statement said.

some of these obscene power bills are lower than what I spent on my off grid solar setup. With the revelations of how bad the infrastructure in Texas is I think it should be a wake up call for everyone that possibly can to start looking at providing their own power and water. If Texas’s system is so fragile I’m certain the rest of the country isn’t as dependable as most think either.
My solar system is only half installed right now. It just got moved up on my priority list to finish the second half of this one and look at getting another one. This really should be a wake up call for everyone.

plumbing tip for those in texas. Soldering water pipes that contain residual water is a pain. If you crap a slice of bread down the pipe, it will stop the water from reaching the solder joint and dissolve and come out the faucet when done.
High fiber bread.

I just saw several stories about people in Texas helping each other out during the storms. From delivering food to the elderly to helping fix broken pipes for their neighbors. It’s good to know there are good people out there. Maybe there is a little hope for mankind.

Tried to turn back on the well today. Turns out we had a major crack in the well pump, so that will need to get replaced and of coarse none can be found locally. Hunny had to order one online and it will be 2-5 days delivery (so the website said). That's not too bad though. We still have county water and we just filled up 2 of our big 55 gallon drums in the back of the truck to take it out to refill the 3 pastures. Just like old times :) Im still pretty thankful that we did very good compared to so many others. We had water, food, and a warm shelter with the firewood.

but you can't blame the state government for people not being prepared that is on each and every person in the state,, it's not like the weather men were not warning everyone it was coming, and now they can see for them selves that if you don't do for your self your left in the cold

Be sure to remove faucet aerators or they will plug up with bread goo!

Boeing grounding its 777 fleet because of exploding Pratt and Whitney engines after Denver .

in Russia, electricity costs 3.5-5.5 rubles per 1 kW * hour.
1 dollar = 75 rubles.
a typical "Russian village family" spends no more than 100 kW per month.
If more energy is needed, we use other sources.

in texas pouring milk into a ditch?
these are signs of the crisis of Capitalism. We did this in the early 90s.
