The origin of the Boy Scout Motto: "Be Prepared"
Words to live by, by Baden Powell who founded the Boy Scouts

The scouts' motto is founded on my initials, it is:

BE PREPARED,

which means, you are always in a state of readiness in mind and body to do your DUTY;

Be Prepared in Mind by having disciplined yourself to be obedient to every order, and also by having thought out beforehand any accident or situation that might occur, so that you know the right thing to do at the right moment, and are willing to do it.

Be Prepared in Body by making yourself strong and active and able to do the right thing at the right moment, and do it.

Thanks Dr, I knew the motto and have used it a number of times in my lifetime, especially when I was a scout leader. But, I never knew where it came from. Learn something new each day.

I know where it came from- I was a Boy Scout, that motto has been with me most of my life.

to me.the primary word is missing.that is,always.

always be prepared.

That's the way it was from webelow ,or how ever you spell it.all the way to boy scout's when i was growing up.

With all the scandals involving Scout leaders in the UK I'm beginning to think the scout motto over here should be " Bend over".
