Hi everyone,

I am from South Africa, living at the Garden Route. Even though this is a very beautiful part of Southern Africa it has its disadvantages.

One of the disadvantages is that only one road connects the Garden Route to the rest of the country and if this road would be destroyed by natural disaster or an act of terrorism the supply chain (food, resources like fuel etc) would be broken. Based on the landscape, deep canyons and inaccessible mountains, restoring the supply chain could take weeks if not months.

This is why I prepare – besides other, more political reasons. So if you are from South Africa or Namibia let me know why you are a prepper or why you look into becoming one.

I look forward to get to know likeminded folks from the region and to share knowledge, visions and realities.

Until then – keep a positive mindset and keep on prepping!

hi prepper safrica, i havent checked this foru in a while thats why the reply now, iv been searching to connect wiht more south african preppers for a while now but no luck untle i saw ur post, im from cape town athlone area. i mainly prepping for my daily travel to work as i work far from home and my on route to work there are zero resource points or safe areas if i have a care accident of breakdown. n2 highway, there are alot of informal settlements on the route so if have a break down there u emedatly a target. im prep[ing at home as well, power generation, water and food storage and high level home sercurity, installing a customed eletric fence at the moment, isolated from the power grid and EMP protected. my avarage water storage is on 2500 letres using a rain catchment system. i have plans to build a pumping system to use tht water for washing and cleaning as water agers. my main preps are directed for mass enflation and social collapse and basic sercurity as a south african. i would like to here more about your preps and how we can help each other, im only 25 so living with my parents gives me many dissadvantages but many advantages as well. i would like to ye rmore from you and other south african preppers -#hash

Hi Haashim, great to hear from you. Yes, its not easy to connect to other preppers in South Africa - at least English speaking ones. I have started prepping not so long ago and my focus is on sustainabilty - I turned my 1000sqm 'tropical garden' into an small fruit orchard with large vegatable batch. It costs some money to do it but it will be worth while once the SHTF. Just this morning I heard that from tomorrow there is a 3 day lock down on residents in Liberia - they hope to contain Ebola - but unrests are building as the people there do not have the food at home which is required for 3 days ..... image a civil unrest because people can not feed themselves for only 3 days!

That must not happen to me - I collect rainwater - about 7500 ltr in large drums plus a small swimming pool with about 15 000 litres - foodstore will keep me and my partner going for about 3 months and next steps are solar power and perhaps a few chickens (must first check with the neigbours about that). I also busy to look for a bug out location - a place to bunker down if I have to leave my home (first choice is to stay put). A few years ago I purchased an old Jeep 4x4 and a large camping trailer - that will both be my bug-out transport.

About 15 years ago I was lucky to meet a hunter and butcher who told me the ropes of hunting and processing the meat for the freezer, for biltong and woers. Back than I applied for a hunting rifle and hunting revolver (both granted) and 5 years ago I got a pistol registered for self defence. Wasn't easy with all the competency certificates required but well worth the effort.

There is a website for preppers who publishes every day new and free e-books which can be downloaded from Amazon (Kindle E-Book reader can be downloaded from Amazon for free as well) - here the link - check it out - there are some great books with even greater ideas!

Stay safe on your daily travels and alwys be prepared!

wow you seem way more prepared than me lol im continouly on youtube searching for info. are u prepping along or do you have other parties or intertested parties? i would like to start a more active group with south african preppers or people interested in prepping, also link one another wiht info or people we can teach us skills we simple do not have. for example i serously lake medical training or anything of that sort, i am starting a pistal training course soon, might even join the club but il see wat it all in tails, but this course covers everything from tactical shooting to ammo production. i have a small car (toyota conquest) i have a 1983 double cab kombi and a 1975 double cab that im buidling both as bug out vechiles. the reasons i chose those vechiles was simply because they run on aircooled motors so no need to wast water on them wen i need it more, as well i know those motors well so il be my own mechanic when the SHTF, they also old so they draw less attention and big and light so they can carry alot and the double cab provides alot of room for othe passengers.

Hi

Hi pyro1978 :) welcome to our south african prepper connection. I lived in PE for nearly a year many moons back and loved it! The only bother I had was the evergrowing motherwell and the townships on the road out to uitenhage ... and Walmer township sort of centre in town. I believe that in a SHTF situation PE can become very quickly very uncomfortable. What plans have you got - bugging out? staying? let us know and happy prepping

Dear Suid Wes - thanks for posting the domains about Southern African preppers - both dont work. Did you mean http://www.suidlanders.co.za/ ? The other website doesn't seem to work at all?!? Did you mean http://vaandel.co.za/ ?

Hi. Yes. Both of them that you wrote is the ones i am talking about. i thought that you would jusf go and search on google for the 2 i gave you.

it is actually in afrikaans but they are really up to date with the latest in the country. you know that the media in SA is controled by ANC so you dont see and hear every thing. the guy from Suidlanders used to be x millitary and in the intellegance division in the old SA Army so he knows how to get info that will give you the chills.

I have read all you guys' stories and have noticed that some of you will be staying put if the SHTF. lets be rational. How long will you be able to hold out in your house. lets say they cut the power and water. only that. How long will your food hold. How long will your water hold. How lkng will yoir health hold. Please guys rdally think this through. almost every white person knows somebody with a farm or knows somebody who knows somebody who owns a farm. We must gather in numbers otherwise you WILL die. There is about 2 million white and about 65 million leagal black poeple in sa. how much from Zim?

Here is what i did. I got a 4x4 bakkie. A trailer. Canned food such as beef etc. for a year. i got plastic paint buckets(25L from a Company called plastic packaging. I filled 2 with rice. 2 of them with sugar.2 of them with super dried biltong. 2 with 2 min noodles. and so on and so on. I have more then 50 buckets full of food. 5 buckets full of meds. I built myself a bush camp on a farm far far from poeple or towns. i hace a bore hole for water and a solar pump. i have 3 buckets full of seeds for planting. Seeds that produce big veggies such as pumpkins etc.

I have guns and ammo. i got myself 3 tents. water tanks in the bush camp. I got a high friquancy radio to talk to the suidlanders in south africa. cause phones will not work.

I have been preparing for 5 years now going for 6. its not that i am rich. I am just dedicated and serious about my safty and my family and litte baby. I have tried all the tricks in the book and got the best results from trail and error. cexperiance is my advantage. I got to know all the plants in the bush that i can survive on should i seperate from my food. i got a chart with all the water holes on it and a route to walk to my camp should i loose my car. And my food is devided in half. Half is at the bushcamp and half is where i stay. Either way i will benefit from one should i loos the other. the plan is to take what i have at home and take it to my camp(bugout) should the SHTF and i have enough time to load everything and drive there.

Best of luck to all you guys

Morning all.
there is one more thing that you guys should consider doing.
Get yourself a "GRAB-BAG"
Its basically a backpack like these tourist use but you have to get one that is big enough for the following. Before we get there. Lets talk about the backpack.
It must be comfortable and as little stress on your shoulders-back-lowerback and above your bum area. It should have no less then a 3 piont harness. (5 piont is the best) it should have a lightweight metal frame for better back support. It should have alot of pockets and stuff to put things in and to tie things down.
The size should be big enough to accomodate the stuff that i will give shortly.

A map of your area and also your areas water points. the map should already contain a route that you are to follow.
Water for 3 days or as long as it would take you to get to your next water point.
A meds kit. containing bandages, plasters, antiseptic cream, beesting relief, headache and pain killers and then also your personal meds that you cant go without. you can also add what you think is important.

You would need a multitool knife. a huge metal cup for drinking and cooking. a fire starting kit or some lighters. matches is not recommended.
Dried food for a week.(they are lighter and easy to pack.)
a 30m ski rope.8mm thick. (they are very strong and very cheap)
A hat, thick warm socks, strong long pants such as jeans. a warm wind resistant jacket. strong hiking boots such as hightec. gloves and what ever you feel is important for you personally. Very important
DO NOT get bright colour clothing, this includes your backpack. STICK TO BLACK,BROWN OR CAMMO.
Get a small one man tent also not bright in colour.

Very important is every member in the house should get a grab bag and practice with your family and children on this bag. You can get seprrated very easy and its important that they know how to use the bag and what purpose each item in the bag performs and the importance of your bag.

Next would be small mirror for making signals and make contact over great distances. Learn some signals if you can.

Do not make your bag to heavy but yet do not compromise on important things in your bag.
Geographically there is always water within 10 to 15 km from each other. You should be able to cover that distance with your load very easy every day. Important to practice with your bag and see if you can walk a mile with it and still feel that you can go on. if you cant then look at the bag content again.

Know this bag is packed and ready to grab at a moments notice. always leave it at the door or where you can get to it in less then 30seconds.

Do not pack it out or move it away after a month and think you will not need it. Also leave your boots and jacket with it at all times. Put it next to your tv or as you enter your house. just a space where you can see it every day and get to it real quick.

That is why i urge u to joint the suidlanders. they are more then 800,000 strong and almost all of them are connected to a early warning sms system. they have leaders inceach and every districk in SA. Your leader in your districk or region cis also on suidlanders. His ckntscy details every thing. they are more then willing to help They are monitoring the situationin SA very very closely. and they will then send you an sms suggestingthat you should run for cover. Each leader and alot of the suidlander members has created and established safe havens for old poeple woman and children where they will be protected by all joung and willing men.they have also preped to the max for poeple who didn't
you can maybe tell me from which area or districk you are and i can then give you the right guy,s contact details

Hi Suid Wes, I am from the Garden Route. Problem - I am not Afrikaans, I am German and emigrated in 1995 to SA. I don't know if they take "outsiders" in and my Afrikaans is not so good to go unnoticed ....
