Been in my neighbor hood for 15yrs and never knew any of em until this year.
I never developed good social skills but it's on my list of improving myself. I'm thinking about giving classes on prepping to get my neighbors started as well as a weekly online game night using my new conflicted deck. It's a pretty politically, racially and socially mixed neighborhood and I figured the more they are prepped the longer I don't have to worry about them getting desperate and being stupid.

Opinions, suggestions and ideas are welcome.

Total ruinination of your OPSEC and PERSEC.

Hey don't forget the survey part.

So how do you plan on rebuilding society? I'm not into the whole incest thing and I don't have a group to rely on. Eventually the pre packaged stuff runs out and farming, security, maintenance and socializing with others can't be done by one family. Eventually you and or your family will get tired of shooting everybody who looks your way.

I plant seeds by suggesting basic concerns of preparing suggested by FEMA. I just add in a what if or a but and they generally take it from there.

After a short time we talk again and they tell me what they doing to prepare, I say oh that's a good idea, I might do that to.
I let them take the lead and then I say I'm matching what there doing. I never let them know I'm far ahead of them on preps.

Get them thinking, then check to see if they do. The ones that don't prep after your contact, you know know who to avoid and watch as a threat.

I think I read 10X more horror stories about busted OPSEC than I ever do about grateful & accepting relatives/friends/neighbors ......

If you think that you bringing a single person/family into the "fold" when you discuss prepping and your plans >>> you have to be the most naive person about human nature alive - there's eazily a 100 close personal people tangent to this individual >> start the multiplier and you hit half the county population in no time ....

and not being capable or willing to do almost anything for THEIR families??? >>> just look at the recent & ongoing craziness over TP and disinfecting wipes >>> so far it's a bitch & gripe about a food product being short - but no starvation involved ....

what's the worst thing about this potentially master prep mistake of alllll time >>> there's no retracting - no take backs - no real remedy or solution >>>> that info is out there for all time even if it's buried in people's dark memories waiting to come out under stress & strife ....

when you have left that pervertible "cat out of the bag" >>> there won't be just "everybody who looks your way" - they'll be coming to raid knowing there's confirmed booty - most likely shoot the capable adults in the back ....

you need to survive yourself before starting to worry about having a dating pool - if the SHTF is that severe I'd worry about having any females available that won't have to be locked up & tied down ....

I did the first part with a couple of people that helped me out during the riots so seeds have been planted.
What would you consider a short time weeks, months or a year?

Unfortunately OpSec really isn't a option for me due to the small lots and my setup. Houses are so close I can literally look into the houses of my neighbors and see what their having for dinner so everything in my backyard is already known by all.
4 IBC Fish tanks, 50 gallon drums for water storage and filtration, raised aqua-ponic growbeds and that's just the stuff people can see looking out their back windows.

So basically I'm screwed or need to be prepared for

I can understand in some situations where it would be good to establish a rapport with your neighbors if one doesn't have a BOL or concerns with security and unable to get the family away safely, each person has to make that decision based on their situation and location.

That's exactly the position I'm in. No BOL and my "preps" can't be hidden due to my neighborhood design. Sorry everybody going grey for me is not an option.

That cat was out the bag that day they dropped of 2 IBC totes when I was in the middle of rebuilding my garage

I'd say your negativity is your worse enemy - there's plenty of prepper credos >>> but #1 has to be a positive attitude - where you never give up - and there's a solution to every problem .....

Many issues can be fixed with one company: U-Haul. Get out of Dodge! If you can see your neighbor's house or property, it's too close. Believe me, you'll be so much happier. I've lived in apartments where you can hear 3 neighbor's TV's at once. In homes where you can touch both homes from one position. And where a rifle is required to even reach the property line. The more the better.

People are either awake and prepping or there is no point to discussions. 2 weeks of food and a few flashlight batteries won't mean anything. And as others have said, for each person you bring in, there's a 100 people with them. Either they are a prepper and ready to cut ties or they're a giant liability. If I wanted Socialism, I'd have just voted for Biden. Nope. If/When SHTF, there are going to be losers (the dead) and winners (the living). I know where I'm going when I die, but I'm not in a rush to get there. Prayer is a great way to meet God, trespassing on my place is much faster.

In my situation all my kids and grand kids live at the property on a mountain, me and the wife moved to a house the wife owned before our marriage just 22 miles from the property because of an injury I sustained and the smoke from the wild fires over the summer severely hampered my healing basically it was medically necessary but where I am at, I can pull out of the driveway, take a right and the property is a straight shot. Preparedness isn't a matter of choice, it is an absolute necessity because the winters can be long meaning no one is getting off the property and power outages can last over a month. If SHTF become real, I'm talking a TEOTWAWKI, we sure as hell won't go out of our way to help strangers and as far as neighbors, we really have none. The biggest threat we would face in good times and in a TEOTWAWKI would be wildfires period.

My number one and my only priority is my wife, kids and grand kids, in a SHTF everyone else can go to hell, I know what I have to work with and I know what can be sustained, I can't and absolutely won't take on more than can be sustained that would jeopardize my family. If that makes me worse than an axx-hole so be it. In good times we help a lot of people out, SHTF changes everything.

Mav, think positively. I hope lots of those people go to Heaven. But it's like the bartender said, "You don't have to go Home, but you can't stay here." The bartender just don't usually use a rifle to explain it.

"everyone else can go to hell" is used metaphorically or figuratively not literally depending on view ;)

I feel good where I’m at , I have the in-laws living on one side of me and the town mayor on the other, he has one son that is a SC state trooper, one work for town water dept. they both are good hunters and excellent marksman as well as downright good young men. I would help my in-laws but the mayors got his family covered, we would help each other with security issues if needed.

Well of course I knew that. But I have to get my Christian words in when I can!

hell.... ill kill my neighbor if I have to. wouldn't even bat an eye.
I'd do that to some of them even if I didn't have to. Some of they are only alive because it is currently illegal to kill them.

One other thought. There are neighbors I like and know would be a benefit to society eventually when it returns. It doesn't matter if they prep or not, I've made plans to bring them in without their knowledge. So whether I'm planning to take them out or bring them in, their knowledge of the upcoming events is best kept quiet for now. Congratulations will go out either way. One gets a congrats that their next meal is ready for them. The other gets a congrats that there will never be a next meal for them.

no it's not a good idea to talk long term ideas with anyone,,,most look at you like you are a paranoid idiot,,,and if you do plant that seed if and when the SHTF that talk you had will comeback to them and they will start planning how to take what you have

besides most here will do ok they are poor hill people and used to scraping by,,,my plan to keep anyone from looking to hard at me if things go to hell,,,make a once a week circle with the rifle or shotgun on the ATV and they will think I am as bad off as they are

I only talk about prepping in general terms until I realize that someone else is a prepper or at least thinking it that direction. Then I may share ideas with them, but only if it's someone I trust. And I never let anyone know exactly what I have or where I keep it.

I’ve talked with my brother about being prepared. He has an ungodly amount of firearms and ammunition. I have a more than adequate supply of beans and butter. Between the 2 of us we have the right stuff to survive when the SHTF. My family - Yes. My neighbors - the Hell with them.

Yeah until it becomes your problem. What will you do then? When they come to share what's yours?
if you are like me,,,,you dress down,,,let the old place look grown up and drive a old truck,,,,that way you don't have to worry about the neighbors wanting what you have,,,,,in fact if you do it well enough they worry about if you are ok,,,,,mine check on me all the time
