are enough.
This is highly subjective.
I could get by with one 12 bore shotgun and a .22 rifle.
If that's all I had or could get, I'd prefer a reliable single shot 12 gauge
and a reliable bolt action .22 rifle, tube fed. It's too easy to loose magazines (clips).
I just happen to have an old but very nice condition 12 bore single shot Stevens and
several bolt action .22 rifles.
The 12 bore Stevens is chambered for 3" magnums and I fired one ONCE.
I'm not recoil shy but that hurt!
My favorite .22 bolt action rifles are the old Remington 500 series.
510, 511, 512, ect.
The most accurate .22 rifles right out of the box I've encountered.
I suppose I have 50 or more firearms and a bunch of air rifles.
No wonder I'm broke!

lets see if the SHTF,,,2 AR 15's the AR's would be my primary self defense gun so I want a back up weapon,,1 45 ACP ,, a good bolt action rifle and a pump action shotgun,,,so 5 is enough for me and throw in a **** load of ammo for all

depends how many in your group and how many of them can shoot. you can only use one at a time.

I'm not expecting to whip an army.
But preppers prepare for the UNexpected don't they.
If my children, all adults, and adult grand kids, can make it to my rather secluded country home then we'd be
4 to 8 more. 8 or more presents problems with living space, food, etc.
Then again 4 to 8 more to provide for 'till they learn some basics.
I can plan but no one can plan the outcomes.
Were I to prepare for everything that might come along I'd quickly drain my meager investments
and be in my own personal economic collapse. There are few things worse than outliving
your money.
Being cautious can lead to paranoia and
paranoia will destroy ya.
I appreciate you comments.

As far as anyone is concerned I don't have any firearms.

I LOVE THAT COMMENT.
Yes indeed keeping a low profile is bright.
That said too many people know I'm armed but not to what extent.
I have a 125 yard shooting range behind my house.
That said few neighbors that can hear the shots.
Can't hide everything from everyone but caution is smart.

the last thing i'm worrying about is lack of money post SHTF, wont be able to get our money out of the banks anyway once the power goes down. let the sheeple worry about having no money.

Yet another fine comment.
I doubt I could cash in my meager investments after shtf, perhaps even before if shtf
was obviously coming.
A fast collapse might be "invited, come as you are", situation.
I'd posit that paper money would only be good for tinder to built a camp fire.
Silver might be handy after things settle a bit.
Ammo, food, meds, and other hard, usable goods would be better barter but I'd be very careful
who I'd trade ammo to. If I'd trade ammo at all.
I don't have much in the way of first aid supplies and intend to fix that.
Bandages and aspirin don't go bad.
My diabetic insulin tabs won't last too long but perhaps I can control blood sugar
with diet. Dunno.

One of many sites on the web for 1st aid supplies.
I need stock up.

a fast collapse would be good, get it over with sort of thing but I doubt it will be that, I've always thought it would be long and slow-domino cascade type. preppers need to keep preparing and stocking up, no matter what is happening in the outside world, slow and steady wins the race- as the tortoise said to the hare!!:D

Also the fasted reload is another loaded gun.
I'm so fortunate that I trained with Massad http://www.ayoob.com/
Massad F. Ayoob
DOB 07/20/1948 in Cambridge, MA
Massad Ayoob,of lethal force institute.
Three times at the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy in London, Ohio.
I went to OPOTA at least 7 times for advanced training, mostly firearms but a few
for investigative techniques including hypnosis and crime scene photography.
By the way. I person can and will LIE under hypnosis.
A person under hypnosis won't do anything the person won't do awake.
Hollywierd movie hype.
It ain't easy to beat a polygraph but it can be done if the subject is, is, ................
NUTS.
Sociopath. There are very, very, dangerous.
Ted Bundy comes to mind.

Theodore Robert Bundy (born Theodore Robert Cowell; November 24, 1946 – January 24, 1989) was an American serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, burglar, and necrophile who assaulted and murdered numerous young women and girls during the 1970s, and possibly earlier. Shortly before his execution, after more than a decade of denials, he confessed to 30 homicides committed in seven states between 1974 and 1978. The true victim count remains unknown, and could be much higher.

The judge that sentenced Bundy to death commented that in better circumstances he'd be
Bundy's friend.
So powerful was Bundy's personal charm.

Now that you mention it. I lost all mine in boating accident in the middle of some lake, and I hit my head and can't remember which lake.

So that is what is wrong with you!!!!
I wondered about that.:D

(JOKE! Kidding. Don't take anything on the web personally. Electrons on a screen is
all this is.)

By the way that excuse is:lame:.
Won't fly and I doubt anyone is going to confiscate our weapons.
Hildibeast lost.
She's butt ugly too.
Chelsea isn't blessed with looks either.
Hang pics of them in the garden to ward off insects.

I have enough to do the job (within reason)

Handguns - revolvers/semi range from .22cal to the 454 casull

Longarms - shotgun/lever/bolt/semi from .22cal to the 460 weatherby magnum
460 is a might large ain't it?
It's fine but that sucka KICKS.
Samo the 454.
I shot 5 rounds from one and that was enough.
I did manage to ding a 3 ft x 3ft steel plate at 150 yards before my hand went numb!
My hot loaded .45 Colt and .44 magnums are enough for me.
The .357 is so versatile.
I have several .357 revolvers and two lever actions in that caliber.
Fun to shoot those rifles.

It kicks, little over a hundred pounds being thrusted back into the shoulder, I weigh in at 177lbs so roughly I only have 75lbs to stabilize myself for the first and follow up (not easy), the 460 is a 300yrd shooter though I never shoot beyond 150yrd with the 460 as to try and avoid a followup. Anymore I don't really shoot it now that my adventures are in the past. By all accounts I'm too light for the rifle!

460 magnum,,,now that is a bone crusher,I will stay with my puny 7mm 08 it will shoot as far as I am willing to try

this is the problem I have with American forums.

a Purdey!! now your talking! sadly I could never afford one, even if I could get the licence.

A used Purdey for sale:

Purdey Double Rifle: Ref: HC140/S
Double Rifle, .577
Renowned Master Engraver, the late Philippe Grifnee, decorated this fine and unique large calibre double rifle with large scroll and buffalo game scenes. Purdey have made very few rifles in this calibre, making this item extremely rare as a rifle in itself, let alone considering the engraving. Grifnee was known worldwide and sadly passed away unexpectedly at a relatively young age. His talent made him a legend in his own lifetime, and in passing away his work has become much sought after. The rifle itself has not been used for game since its manufacture in 1993, and so retains an as-new condition. It has been re-regulated by Purdey for sale, and a leather pad added for comfort, with a stock length of 15". The barrels are 24" in length, and the rifle has an overall weight of approximately 13lbs. The unique bespoke case has a full compliment of accessories. Please contact us for further information on this fine piece.
£155,000  ($198,650)

My opinion is if you standardize caliper then you make your weapons more flexible and need fewer. That being said, I think four weapons is a good start. One being a long range rifle with a scope. If you can keep the bad guys a long ways away from you your better off. Next is a good shotgun. You don't need to be a marksman with these things. Then a 22 rifle is good both for some self defense and gathering food. Last is a sidearm, preferably one that is concealed.
