This is highly subjective.
I could get by with one 12 bore shotgun and a .22 rifle.
If that's all I had or could get, I'd prefer a reliable single shot 12 gauge
and a reliable bolt action .22 rifle, tube fed. It's too easy to loose magazines (clips).
I just happen to have an old but very nice condition 12 bore single shot Stevens and
several bolt action .22 rifles.
The 12 bore Stevens is chambered for 3" magnums and I fired one ONCE.
I'm not recoil shy but that hurt!
My favorite .22 bolt action rifles are the old Remington 500 series.
510, 511, 512, ect.
The most accurate .22 rifles right out of the box I've encountered.
I suppose I have 50 or more firearms and a bunch of air rifles.
