You can fly like Ironman now. Most of the video is just hovering but near the end he takes off and flies.

As I see it, the only limitation is the amount of fuel you can carry. That's probably why he had to bail.

guy flew one of those from France to England but would have ended up head first in the water about half way if he didn't have a refuelling boat sitting in the Channel. I think he did exactly that on the first try.
