Google Crashes After Website Traffic Routed Through China and Russia

Gee, through Russia, China and Nigeria and it was just a huge mistake. Yeah, I buy that, and I want to sell some prime ocean front real estate here in Arizona.

My bet, Google does not want to point the finger at China, where they hope to establish a censored search system for eh Chinese. What is your take on this "MISTAKE"?


Google’s services crashed worldwide for an hour recently after the company’s traffic was routed from its regular paths to paths through Nigeria, China, and Russia.
Engadget reports that Google services went down for an hour worldwide recently after the company’s IP addresses were re-routed from their usual paths to ones running through Nigeria, China, and Russia. Despite the fact that the government-owned company China Telecom was recently found to be routing Western carrier traffic through mainland China, Google told Ars Technica that they do not believe that the leak was malicious.

The company’s issues began when a carrier based out of Lagos in Nigeria declared that their system was the correct route for several hundred IP prefixes used by Google. This route was accepted by China Telecom which then declared it worldwide. This was then picked up by Transtelecom in Russia and other large ISP services around the world.

This was NOT a mistake, this was coordinated between russia and china! This wouldn't be the first time google not being upfront about such things.

Don't forget, china is nigeria largest trading partner and the primary supplier of telecommunication and networking components so the accident excuse is bullshit in spades!

US Military/Government has a cloud based contract with google, in this 'mistaken' redirect googles cloud services was affected, makes me wonder if the cloud service wasn't the target

If you ever wanted to know where your connection goes, you can do a traceroute (tracert in Windows) from a command prompt.

tracert google.com

Then you need to do a WHOIS on every IP address in the route.
For U.S. IPs:
http://whois.domaintools.com/

If that comes back empty or request denied, it's probably a foriegn IP.
For European IPs:
https://apps.db.ripe.net/db-web-ui/#/query

I am sure it was sort of an "oops" on their part, didn't expect it to go down and give them away.
