There is not enough talk about flashlights in here. I am upset! Seriously though, what's up with that?

I have a few suggestions and I'm always up for some flashlight talk... always always always have a flashlight that runs off of AA batteries. AAA batteries MIGHT be okay, but I'm fairly confident there are less of those...and you could theoretically make an adapter to make your AA battery run off of AAA batteries. Pretty hard to do the other way around.

This is my flashlight of choice, but it does not have a strobe mode. (some do, some don't) It is a semi-cheaply made flashlight, but it is an extremely good value. I have two other flashlights that used to be my EDC but I don't enjoy them as much as this one.

Also, what's everyone's favorite light? How do you plan on powering yours after the SHTF? Discussion time!

I have a Ryobi and a Coleman. Neither are very nice, but they do the job quite well, and both run off of non-AA batteries.

300 lumens? For that price? I might have to buy a few.

300 lumens is optimistic, very optimistic. I want to say it's closer to 150 on AA and 175+ on the 18500 battery? (it's been a while since i researched the light so don't trust those numbers 100%)

With that said, it's still a good deal!

is my favorite. I have several of them. rechargable, After SHTF will still be rechargable from car battery that is recharged from solar and or from the water wheel in the creek.
I live in the country, when I need light in the dark, its usually to kill something as far off as the woodline. In my opinion anything less might as well come from the dollar store, and have a wind up crank on it.
there are many flaslights- battery lights here, but to have a favorite in small body lights ........ I keep a lighter in my pocket to get to the flashlights.......
flip button you have light, what is the difference in them.

The last picture is my edc and one great light I love it.

Damn you colt I want some sure fire flashlights soooooooo bad I just can't let my self pay 74 and 110 for the 2 that I want but I'm going to as soon as money is not so hard to come by. Also nice lights I kinda have a deep love for flashlights
There some killer lights out now but f---ing expensive

I never store my flashlights with the batteries in them....i always keep the batteries rubberbanded to the sides or taped to the sides of the flashlight to preserve as much batt life as possible. storing them with the batteries in them is condusive to draining the battery even when not being turned on...just a hint ;)

That's a good idea, but knowing my girlfriend she would constantly pull the rubber bands off to put her hair up or something...lol

Ranger bands work really well for that. Just cut them from an old bike inner tube. You can make them any size you like.

Yes ranger bands work swell, and as flashlights go everyone has a diffrent pick but a good torch/flashlight is a must have in any situation. I myself have a s*** load of flashlights, keep two in my truck one mini maglite LED, 1 Coast, and got alot more in my prepper storrage room at my place lol.

This isn't a traditional flashlight but works great in all conditions. 911 Tactical also sells laser pointers/locators. I purchased a year ago a Laser Genetics ND-5 Laser Locator at the 911Tactical website. It was originally purchased to give helo's inbound to medical aids a way to quickly find the incident. I've only used it twice with great succcess and praises from CDF captains and pilots who agreed that it was a great tool for such a thing. From the same officials who prasied it also ended up "banning" it from volunteer fire depts, at least our dept. I thought that was crazy, to ban something that could make a difference in a life and death situation. alot of times dispatch will mis-direct the chopper unless volunteers have GPS and can give the pilots coords to where we are. Sometimes this does not happen and having this locator pointed skyward the pilot can see it from miles away. So far I have verified it's visibilty at 14 miles when pointed skyward. It's visibilty may be farther. In recent months I have used it up in the forest to increase illumination for my 5x night vision when exploring at night. It's beam can be adjusted from 5mm to 35mm. It has an aircraft type aluminium housing and runs on 2 CR-123 lithium batteries that last 7 hours continuous and comes in a very nice padded case. it is used by USCG in various places. I think the officials that didn't want it used were concerned that the user was not properly qualified. It is awesome to use in conjunction with night vision to extend the illumination at night. With the beam adjusted to 35mm you can see very clearly 400 yards. Of course it isn't IR and when shtf you'd definately want to NOT give up your location. It still is a very important part of my bugout pack as it is very invaluable for many situations. At $250+ it's the low end of what 911Tactical offers on their website as far as laser optics. They have a great selection of lasers and lights.

Other lights are a Coleman 137lm, 2 SureFire 6P's, one mounted to my Escort Magnum which is attached to a quick release to move to my H&K 9 when needed. Another is by Fenix, a TK-35 which used a cree xm-l led. It's 6 1/2 inches long and has a turbo mode, 820 lumens for 1.5 hours. Has low, medium and strobe and low runs for 170 hours advertised with 4 CR-123's. I have room for more and will look into some of the nice ones posted here.

Also have a search light off a Bell 205 that is flown by fresno county sherriffs. It runs at 28 volts. With two 12v batteries in series it makes daylight on a hill 1.5 miles away. I'm working on a housing for it and a buddy we are creating the circuits needed to run it off a single car battery. It will be a blaster.

WOW that is nice !

Great thread! Thanks for starting it!
I picked up a pack of 3 led lights from Costco. They have two power levels plus a strobe. Strobe works great for disorienting someone.
They are about 200 lumens if I remember correctly.
The pack of three cost me $15.00

I didn't check out the link till now, think i will order one up. Thanks Coche Blanco!!!

Really not planing on using flashlights. But night vision attached to army helmet. Since flashlights will give your position away easily, but they will be good to blind your enemy when confronted. Love to get thermal vision added with night vision for top night vision. When and if it all hits the fan. Movement at night will be the safest. Which includes night hunting and fishing.
