I heard on the radio Texas found out it can spread sexually and Florida declared a state of emergency today. If it keeps mutating this one could get nasty.

I saw that too. Just the fact that it spreads so fast is enough to raise an eyebrow. Actually what we have is a perfect transmitter and if it mutates we could be in for it.

There were a case reported in 2008 here in the states (Colorado) that the zika virus was sexually transmitted from him to his wife similar to the situation in Texas though the 2008 incident was from a doctor returning from Africa not South of the border. The CDC and Texas health department stated 'we believe' (though not 100% positive it was sexually transmitted) So the virus is not unique to Brazil , Also, the 2008 incident predates Brazil GMM testing and also the 2008 incident came from Africa.

We really should deal with the facts on what we know. print, MSM, tabloids, social networks and conspiracy theorist have all run amok with information and a lot of it is mis information. While it's a serious virus that can cause serious damage to the fetus of the unborn (in current testing) we shouldn't jump to conclusions and follow every rabbit trail we come too ;)

We should all relax.

Treatment for Zika Virus. Sound familiar? It should. Same as the common cold!

Treatment
  • There is no vaccine to prevent or specific medicine to treat Zika infections.
  • Treat the symptoms:
    • Get plenty of rest.
    • Drink fluids to prevent dehydration.
    • Take medicine such as acetaminophen (Tylenol®) to relieve fever and pain.
    • Do not take aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
    • If you are taking medicine for another medical condition, talk to your healthcare provider before taking additional medication.

I still can't believe people are losing their heads over this one....just goes to show you how effective media hype can be. Truly remarkable.

Zika virus is primarily spread to people through mosquito bites. The virus can be spread from mother to child. Spread of the virus through blood transfusion and sexual contact has also been reported.

Approximately 80% of people infected with the virus do not become ill. For those who do develop symptoms, illness is generally mild and typically lasts a few days to a week. The most common symptoms of Zika virus disease are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes).

Severe disease requiring hospitalization is uncommon and fatalities are rare. An increase in Guillain-Barré syndrome was noted during an outbreak of Zika virus in French Polynesia in 2014. An increase in microcephaly was noted during an outbreak of Zika virus in Brazil in 2015.

Rio 2016 Olympics could spark 'full blown global health disaster', say Harvard scientists

Zika warning is latest in string of troubles for 2016 Games hosts

The 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro could spark a “full-blown public health disaster”, doctors have warned.

Since the Zika virus was first identified in Brazil in May 2015, the disease's spread through Latin America has been declared a health emergency by the World Health Organisation and the number of suspected cases in Rio is the highest of any state in the country.

The continued presence of the virus ahead of the summer Olympics has caused athletes and health specialists to question the risks involved in allowing the Games to go ahead with hundreds of thousands of spectators travelling to the city.

On January 22, 2016, CDC activated its Incident Management System and, working through the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), centralized its response to the outbreaks of Zika occurring in the Americas and increased reports of birth defects and Guillain-Barré syndrome in areas affected by Zika. On February 1, 2016, the World Health Organization declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) because of clusters of microcephaly and other neurological disorders in some areas affected by Zika. On February 8, 2016, CDC elevated its response efforts to a Level 1 activation, the highest response level at the agency.

CDC is working with international public health partners and with state and local health departments to

Alert healthcare providers and the public about Zika.

Post travel notices and other travel-related guidance.

Provide state health laboratories with diagnostic tests.

Monitor and report cases of Zika, which will help improve our understanding of how and where Zika is spreading.

Symptoms, Diagnosis, & Treatment
Symptoms

Most people infected with Zika virus won’t even know they have the disease because they won’t have symptoms. The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, or conjunctivitis (red eyes). Other common symptoms include muscle pain and headache. The incubation period (the time from exposure to symptoms) for Zika virus disease is not known, but is likely to be a few days to a week.

See your doctor or other healthcare provider if you are pregnant and develop a fever, rash, joint pain, or red eyes within 2 weeks after traveling to a place where Zika has been reported. Be sure to tell your doctor or other healthcare provider where you traveled.

This damn cold strain going around is worse than this Zika nonsense. Most people that get it, have mild bronchitus for weeks. It's ridiculous. Not sure if just local to my area or not. I was out one day for it (more because I was pretty contagious that day), so it isn't debilitating, just annoying.

Should I cancel my trip to the Olympics now? Just curious, how many people have caught cold and died compared to Zika? It sounds more like scare tactics to keep the CDC and WHO rolling in the dough. If the Zika is so dangerous then close the southern border.

I wouldnt go to anything that has lots of people right now, just to be on the safe side.as mattter of fact.im wondering if it,d be good idea to play it safe when grocery shopping and all.
