I like the first thing mentioned in the article, “most things take at least three years to produce”. I keep hearing lots of people say they are going to plant some fruit bearing trees before long. If you don’t start now it will even be that much longer to get results.... some of my trees didn’t really produce for 5yrs. This years apples are so loaded the branches are drooping almost to the point of breaking! Frigging awesome! If anyone thinks that when the economy starts to fail they will plant then, I’m sorry to say they will likely starve to death.

@Brent S Same for those that have never grown a crop or hunted in the woods or,or, or, -- you got it, they will starve.

This year we replanted some fruit trees after lossing most all of ours due to 2 hurricanes and a few goats that loved to eat apple tree bark. Hoping they will do ok, but patiently waiting for the harvest. 1 peach, 1 pear, and 1 apple. Still have 2 pear and 3 Mayhaw trees. Would like to get blackberries replanted too just didn't get any this year.

And now down 1 apple tree that was plants this year. . . Hunny backed over it with the golf cart. . . Guess I'll try again later on.

We have tons of fruit trees all over the place here in South Florida..

I've identified mango, various citrus, and cocoanut just in my gated community.

Also, I just found out that we have taro growing all over the place down here. Taro is what the Hawai'ians use to make poi, and it's also used in many other Polynesian and Asian dishes.

People down here regard it as an invasive pest species.
