Let Red China step in and lose even more of their money. I don't see the Bahamas becoming a tourist attraction under communist control, so it will be a huge financial drain on China.

I can see our gov't helping out for the very short term. No organization has the size/capacity to help 70,000 people who've all become homeless and without possession overnight. And only miles from our beaches. Sure, send in the navy/marines, pull them out of their destroyed shelters, give them medical care & food & water and get them to somewhere safe (another island of Bahama?). Give them a week or two's supply... then leave. Charities can kick in then. But our gov't has no reason to rebuild their homes, redo their electric grid, and bring them back to how they were.

I doubt China has much interest in Bahamas. They are after resources, things like copper and rare metals. The Bahamas are a bunch of pot-heads and palm trees. Plus China is really hurting and this ongoing trade war has them being very defensive.

SE makes a really good point. China has been moving into Africa & trying to take over. My prediction: it'll backfire. Africa is going to be their version of Afghanistan. The locals are going to be nothing but trouble. Cannibal tribes, muslim warlords, disease... there is a reason nobody else has taken over Africa. Europe couldn't do it in 1000 years. We only were able to stop their pirates for a while. Yes, Africa has tremendous natural resources (copper, PM's, minerals, etc). But I predict it won't go well.

I do believe China has interest in the rest of the world and showing dominance and may come to be a bigger threat than many of us realize. However, I do not think that it will show itself in the Bahamas at this time. I could be wrong, but I think there are more important things from China's perspective right now.

I don't see china expanding much, in fact, they will be lucky to hold onto what they have bought. China needs to stop the economic bleeding before they can venture more capital. Africa is going to be a huge problem. They are not going to blend in with the population and the locals are already resentful of all the Chinese workers present. Won't take too long before a few Chinese are featured on milk cartons.
