if they'd had gold coins, passports, silenced pistols, soft armor, subsonic ammo, luminous sights, and night vision, they could have gotten out. If shtf is not world wide, all at once, the rational thing to do is go someplace where things are normal.

Murdering people in the name of race, religion, ethnicity............
how totally sickening, inhumane, barbaric.
Hitler may not have been insane in the 1930s when he organized the
post WWI Germany by finding a common cause to blame all Germany's
woes.
Jews were a handy minority. They were successful in business ventures,
and they pretty much stayed to themselves and they were not racially
German.
Not Aryan.
Hitler absolutely believe the Germanic peoples and those of Great Britain
were cousins.
He did not want a war with Great Britain.
He got it none the less.

The Liberal left media is going to smear President Trump at any
opportunity.
If no opportunity the Liberal left will invent something.
Clinton got impeached and got away with it.
Not for getting a b.j. from Monica but for lying about it.
No public t-v yet he lied, " I did not have sex ...................................."
Monica's picture belongs on a bag of Kibble 'n Bits.
If I was married to Hillary I'd be with Monica also.

The media and the left is really spinning this whole thing out of proportion, Clinton banned certain groups when he was President as did obummer for 6 months with full support from the dems but no one protested then, this strictly has to do with the hatred of Trump nothing more!
Exactly Maverick. Nhe also wasn't a racist until HRC said he was

If Hitler had had sense enough to forget Europe and invaded Russia FIRST, the world would have HELPED him! Then swoop thru the balkans, grab the Suez and the oil field, steam thru the mediterranean, secure Gibralter and England, support Japan (but have them not attack the US) and only the nukes coud have dis-lodged him. Any dummy could see that was the way to go.

Your quite right I believe.
Good for us Hitler was quite insane.
Hitler didn't know Japan was going to attack at Pearl Harbor.
Back then the U.S. wasn't even close to being prepared for a war.
What saved the world was American manufacturing capability
and resolve.
Frankly Britain was on the verge of defeat.
Losses at Dunkirk were devastating.
80% material and 20% manpower.
The Royal Air Corp saved Britain.
The Japanese did Britain a huge favor by attacking Pearl.
It drew the U.S. into the war.
Churchill was elated the Japanese attacked the U.S.
American Liberty ships saved Britain from literal starvation.
At horrible cost.
According to the War Shipping Administration, the U.S. Merchant Marine suffered the highest rate of casualties of any service in World War II. Officially, a total of 1,554 ships were sunk due to war conditions, including 733 ships of over 1,000 gross tons. Hundreds of other ships were damaged by torpedoes, shelling, bombs, kamikazes, mines, etc. Foreign flag ships, especially those with Naval Armed Guard on board as well as ships belonging to U.S. territories such as the Philippines, are included in this list.
We also gave literal tons of aid to Russia to stave off defeat by the Germans.
Hitler was stupid to attack Russia when he did.
Russia had vast oil reserves that Hitler wanted.
And the one thing Russia always had in abundance.
Manpower.

germans who got rid of the stalinists would have been worshipped by many Russians.

What a load of bollocks, Hitler wanted a Greater Germanic state and he wants Alsace Loraine back off France, and the ethnically German bits back off Poland and Czechoslovakia, Once he had his greater Germanic state THEN he wanted Lebensraum ( Living space) by stealing huge chunks of the UKRAINE not Russia. He did not want Britain because he knew that not only was the entire Empire stood with GB but also Poland France, Greece and the low countries. He knew and accepted that Britains MARITIME empire could not be beaten and so her wanted a LAND empire in Central europe.

Man you got that wrong

Both the Germans and the Brits knew of the planned attack on PH, The Brits actually warned the US but to no avail.

Britain was not on the verge of defeat our expeditionary force got hammered stupid in France the Royal Navy and Royal air force were almost untouched, and no food, supplies or fuel shortages existed at that time. But most of the army was still intact but often in the wrong places IE across the Empire. That was 1939 early 1940.
By December 6th 1941 Britain was hammering the Germans by Air and Sea though in the Med the Germans and Italians were equally hammering us badly, and the Russians had started to bleed the Germans dry by October 1941 when the battle for Moscow began.

At those dates the UNITED STATES was not even in the war, Thats when the U boats started causing shortages getting to the UK mainland but the rest of the empire was untouched.

The Liberty ships did not save us from starvation but by god they helped improve things massively. The first liberty ship PATRICK HENRY was not even launched until September 1941 again after the worst of the crisis had started to pass but again by god they were very welcome help and the courage of the US sailors never forgotten. NOR must the long range AIR patrols be the USAAC be forgotten or the Canadian forces massive contribution

Next Dec 6 1941 Pearl Harbour when the US refused British intel that the Japanese were going to attack. on that dreadful day much of the USNs pacific capital ships got crippled or sunk, but the bulk of the critically essential carriers were out at sea. That is when the BRITISH and AUSTRALIANS helped out the USN because they immediately deployed their Pacific and Far Eastern big ships to act as fleet protection for the US carrier fleets and did so the whole of the war, Hardly an act of a nearly defeated Britain. PLUS we were also fighting the Afrika Corps in Libya and by mid 1942 we were defeating FM Erwin Rommel AND we were fighting the Japanese all across Asia from India to China .

Meanwhile from 8 December 1941 – 8 May 1942 the United states was getting hammered in the Fillipines by the japs and it was British and Commonwealth forces again who helped our US cousins, again hardly a nation on the brink of defeat.

Thank you for the corrections. :>)

Churchill was very worried, especially because it wasn’t just guns that the Atlantic fleet was bringing to Britain. It was butter. The rationing was so bad that at one point the Brits were rationed one egg a week. They stood in queues for hours just to get a piece of fruit. They were literally starving because food could not be brought in fast enough to feed their people, and fleet transports were being sunk faster than they could be replaced. Churchill quipped “The only thing that ever really frightened me during the war was the U-boat peril. I was even more anxious about this battle than I had been about the glorious air fight called the Battle of Britain.”

Oddly enough it was SPAM and CORNED BEEF that was the biggest help, We adapted from butter to lard .

Yup may like this piece on how we ended up HEALTHIER
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/history/...-British-table-and-made-us-all-healthier.html

Great article and thank you for adding to increasing my understanding of British
history.
I grew up with a poor view on the English.
Dad was a WWII vet and stationed in England 'till he shipped
out on D-day .
Brits on the American military:
"Over paid, over sexed, and over here."
Rationing was common in the U.S. during WWII.
Gasoline, smokes, meat, and butter became oleo that today is margarine.

Good read. I would like to see fast food chains go way of the DoDo, people really should get back to making food from scratch, much isn't taught anymore in this fast pace world of push button food.

An interesting article I read the other day, It changed the historical perception I had and learned in school not counting movies and literature;

Food at sea in the age of fighting sail (18th/19th century)

No mon ami you misunderstand the over paid thing was typical British tongue in cheek humour, The Brits loved and welcomed both the Canadians and American and TWO of the reasons are thus (1) Within days of WW2 starting Americans started arriving in the UK and at our embassys claiming to be Canadian and wanting to join our forces, Indeed often many American merchant sailors signed off US flagged vessels in the UK and immediately volunteers for our Merchant Marine. American pilots started turning up in the UK telling all sorts of lil white lies to get into our forces to help us. Seriously the chances are if someone bad mouthed a US serviceman in the UK in the 1940s chances are the loud mouth would have got seven colours of shit kicked out of him by other Brits. (2) The Americans generosity, unfookable believable US servicemen (draftees and volunteers -- there were are LOT more volunteers from the US than your govt would admit A LOT MORE, all claiming to be Canadian but with intimate knowledge of places in the US) they were so generous with everything from gifts, organising supplies from the US for our kids, helping British communities.

The Americans in the 1940s did something they could not do in 1812 the Yanks defeated us Brits with love, kindness, bravery, friendship and other good things. Same with the Canucks. And we did not forget that friendship see how the British forces fought to help the struggling forces in the early days of the Korean war.

If us Brits hated the Yanks so much then why are surviving US and Canadian war veterans idolised and welcomed into our communities and homes when they come back after 70 years?

FANTASTIC POST.

Thank you.

My f.i.l. crewed as ball turret gunner in a B-17 flying out of bases in England.
He was on his 25th mission and due to be rotated home upon completion.
He didn't make it.
Three hits with German 88 mm cannon.
One in the nose, midships, tail.
Only three of the ten got out.
He was caught by German troops as soon as he hit the ground.
Lucky to not be shot.
7 months as a p.o.w. and weighed only 75 pounds when liberated
by advancing British armor and infantry.
Dad was in 3rd Armored, light tank, 37 mm cannon that was useless
against German tanks.
It was good for infantry support.
Dad was gunner/driver, lost 5 tanks, twice the only survivor.
He refused purple heart and other medals.
He just wanted to go home.
It was a year after he was mustered out before he could use his right
hand again.
Booby trap in a house in Belgium got him.
His discharge papers only say "Drove light tank in Europe".
He does have a ribbon with 5 star indicating he took part in
5 major battles.
He was in the Spearhead division so out front of the main forces all
the time.
He was caught behind Germans lines in the Battle of the Bulge.
His tank ran out of gas so under cover of nightfall they abandoned
the tank and crawled all night to friendly lines.
He hated the Army and the war.
I recall very few times he'd talk about the fighting.
Once and only once he talked of machine gunning children.
Germans would wire the kids with explosives and send them
running to G.I.'s yelling "chocolate, G.I.!" then when close enough
the German S.S. would detonate the kids and take out the allied
soldiers.
Nasty.
Who said war was fair?
The Japanese were horrible to captured allied troops.
IF THEY CAPTURED ANY! Surrendering allies were often just shot.
Number one the Japs thought surrender was a sign of cowardice.
Number two they did sign the Geneva accords but it was never ratified
by the Japanese Gov't, therefore void.
Yet snowflakes still condemn the U.S. for using the Atomic bomb.
We only had two bombs and used them.
That saved an estimated one million casualties on all sides.
Now the Japanese beat us the the retail market.
Right behind China.

American and England.
Allies separated by a common language.
Lorry? ( IT'S A CAR!!!!)
Loo? (toilet)
Bonnet? (car hood)
Boot? ( it's a TRUNK! Boot goes on your feet!):D

My favorite comedy of all times was "Are you being served?"

Are You Being Served? (originally styled as "Are You Being Served?" in quotation marks) is aBritish sitcom created and written by Jeremy Lloydand David Croft (Croft also directed some episodes), with contributions from Michael Knowles and John Chapman, for the BBC.[1] Set in London, the show follows the misadventures and mishaps of the staff of the retail ladies' and gentlemen's clothing departments, in the flagshipdepartment store of a fictional chain called Grace Brothers.
