Anyone know the blade grind of a draw knife? Is it a chisel grind? A saber grind (doubtful)?

Cause I have some old cultivator disks and some leaf springs, I can forge one if I know the blade grind.

I need some files. 2 or 3 each of different styles.

I know I should, but I've never liked bow saws. Just always had problems using. It wrong of me, lol, but there it is.
Beats an axe on the thicker stuff. For smaller branches an axe is great. I’m a woodworker and like to think that if shtf I can make most of what I need. The reality is just keeping up with firewood for heat and cooking would be a lot, so keeping that in mind at least for the first year, I’m mostly focused on the firewood collection for wood tools. Maybe some rough shelter construction too.

Follow the angle that's already there, draw blades are not sharpen on grinders or by files, they are sharpen parallel to the blade, like you're shaving the blade not from the blade or towards the edge, I either use an oil stone or diamond plate/bar.

I would be hammering one out of a larger piece cut from a spring, probably. There would be two grinds, or bevels, primary and secondary...

I'll look it up online, I'm sure I can find it.

We have posted about this before, but thought it wouldn't hurt to repeat.

A manual clock like was used when I was young. If SHTF we can't rely on batteries or even solar. An old fashioned clock and watch would be great to have.

I have a manual clock, but have misplaced it. I think my Mom has it in her rooom. Must check......,

your referring to an old fashioned wind up time piece, not just clocks but watches too
I haven't got an awful use for timepieces post SHTF myself, I intend to get up just before dawn(I do that now), and any job will take as long as it takes-time is irrelevant in that context, and I will go to bed when it gets too dark to do anything.

Paul, I was thinking of if you needed to time something such as meds, explosives, solvents, etc.

I'm with you on getting up when it's still dark and going to bed as soon as I can after I put the chickens to roost.

I lived for 12 years off grid and although I had a clock and a watch I hardly ever looked at them, I was so intent on what I was doing.

I have a drawer full of watches that don’t get touched anymore. The smart phone killed the watch thing for me. I think about times when camping, time just doesn’t matter much. You work with the daylight and shortly after dark it’s time to retire for the night. That is of course after a good meal, a couple beers and some time around the fire anyways.

egg timers are available, I remember my mother using one of the ones where sand spills from one side to the other when upturned.
most of my cooking will be the boiled, stewed or fried kind post SHTF. and I wont be keeping appointments.
the cheap(£6.99) watches I wear have a guaranteed battery life of 2 years and they all last much longer than this, so i'll use them until they no longer work, then do without.
