That's funny, Brent. Jim's part of Texas is like ten hours from me too.....and I'm IN Texas!
It really is bigger than most countries in the world! I lived in San Antonio for a year. When I first got there I was suprised. There were rolling hills, lush green everywhere, and not a cactus or tumbleweed in sight. Once, when I drove down to Laredo one weekend I went thru the desert with the aforementioned cactus and tumble weeds. My point is you can see just about every type of geography in the state if you want. You could go on vacations each month to a new place and never leave the state. But the people really do tend to be more of the self reliant type. I guess it's the genetics. The ones that were brave enough to get on a stagecoach and head out west back in the day were really heading into the unknown. So it makes sense that they passed down that adventurous spirit.

rain/thunder storms can be a learning experience.i checked the extended forecast for jasper area, for that weekend.and just my luck.it's suppose to rain, the very first day, that im suppose to be there..wind for that day.South at 8 mph with wind Gusts: of 26 mph

Kind of takes some of the fun out of it, unless of course you have a good woman to share the tent with.....

tried setting up prepper meets in the past, during the last 8 years I've met maybe 6 people who call themselves preppers, and there is only one of those I would trust in a SHTF situation, of course loads of people say they will come but don't, then you hear all the excuses afterwards, I've given up on this sort of thing, I do my own thing now.

i figured at least most folks here, are most and like real busy this time of year.when it comes to work, home repairs, gardens,to what ever..so i left it open, where folks can choose to show up or not.it is difficult to set up meets.on account of different life styles,to very busy at different times of the year..some folks simply cant afford to take a trip of any kind..

this is what i might be in for.my first day there.
morning.
S 8 mph
Gusts: 22 mph
Thunderstorms: 91%

that night
SSE 4 mph
Gusts: 15 mph
Thunderstorms: 24%

I like it.but only as long as nothing goes wrong.on account it means a good try out for the new tent n all.pluss,i get to see how things go,when it comes to eating, staying dry.right along with everything else. And top it off.it means being left alone when it comes to the other campers for a while.lol

I'm usually ok if it starts raining after camp is all set up, it just sucks when it's raining during setup. Usually the last thing I do after everything is in place is rope a large tarp over everything. It not only is an extra barrier from the rain, but gives a sunshade as well.

i prefer getting my tent pitched first thing, when i get there.this way i have a dry place to go and sit it out..so i'll be getting a very early start saturday morning..
Hope the weather holds out for you.
