Been working on my parents place getting it ready to sell and going through their stuff. My son took a trailer load of dad's tools and some furniture, guns, etc. Still have a lot of stuff to sell. We started painting the outside of their house today.
I got the posts and beams set for the new wood shed. Got the posts set in the ground before it froze too deep. Between snows I've had a couple more loads of gravel delivered and another 50 yards of top soil added to the back yard. That makes about 150 yards of top soil that will hopefully divert the spring runoff from flooding the house next spring. We've had snow off and on since the end of September and I'm way behind on getting ready for winter. I need to rebuild the rear blade on the tractor and do some welding on the snow plow. Been pretty sick for a couple of weeks too. Coughing day and night and have to sleep sitting up, and feeling a little weak.
We should be able to start moving in to the new house in a couple of weeks.

Make your own cough syrup. Narrow leaf or broad leaf plantain, 50%, dandelion leaves 10%, nettels leaves, 20%, misteltoe leaves 20%. Get a 1/2 gallon pickle jar. Chopped up leaves, covered with any alcohol, vodka, moonshine and such. Let it stand in an eastern window to get some sun, but not all day for 4-6 weeks. Filter out the leaves and add honey to taste. Store in dark place or dark colored glass bottles. If you have problems with alcohol, just use sugar and leaves in layers and just enough water to cover them. Works also but the alcohol lets you sleep better later. Take just before bedtime. GP

Whiskey, lemon and honey. Quick, easy and works. Of course before shtf, I’d just go get some mucinex or any otc decongestant from the store. Knowing some alternative treatments for after shtf is a really good idea though. In the mean time I suggest stocking up on aspirin (for both pain and fever) and an anti diarreal. Fever and dehydration are two big killers when people are in tough situations.

Yes and yes again. I've been doing herbs and spices since starting survival in 1974. Ate my first rattler then too. I have heard there are certain leaves when soaked in water for 2 days is also good against high or low blood pressure and diabetes. Nettles tee or syrup from alcohol is good against asthma, bronchitis and whooping cough. Look 'em up, cook 'em up. GP
also, using silver willow leaves and innerbark, cut up and make tee. Just as good as aspirin, without the side effects of blood thinning, GP

PLEASE CHECK WITH A PROFESSIONAL AND DO YOUR OWN THOROUGH RESEARCH BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANYTHING

We started moving some stuff in to the new house today. We still need to finish the tile in the master bath, connect the plumbing and add handrails on the stairway. Plus a few other minor things. The new furniture and washer and dryer will be delivered next week.
I got the floor in the new wood shed today and should be able to start on the rafters tomorrow. I'm hoping to have the wood shed finished by the end of the week and will start stacking firewood in it. I have two cords of wood left to split and another 5 cords already split.
I'm still a little sick but feeling a lot better.

Wish we could zip over, help and zip back home. Sounds like you got your hands full right in the start of winter. All the best for your health. Only friends and health are the things you really need when the SHTF. Without them, the best prepping just stands around and waits to be used...GP

Just dried and stored about 10 kilos of mushrooms. No, NOT the funny ones. Had lots of rain lately and they are really popping up all over. Made some like a chicken fried steak and others into goulash. Anybody hungry now??
I love mushrooms, just wish I was brave enough to pick wild ones.
