I can't disagree more on the hammock, a good henessey hammock you are rock solid.

They are nice, but I have to think you'll get soaked trying to get into it when it is already raining. Plus, the little bit of rain that will definitely make it in with you, is now right along your spine...

Tip on the tarp tent, have 4 carabiners with you too. Use them to hold up the two openings in the tarp tent (go through the grommets) to keep ground water from coming in....;)

Might want to do a little research before knocking them, The new ones have a bottom entrance with velcro or zipper. Doesn't really matter it's whatever works for the individual, We do not get much rain here and i like to be off the ground. There is no doubt that a tarp is a key survival tool but for me it's back up or secondary.

Definitely to each their own, just my own experience hasn't been grand with them, but sure, like anything else, they do make improvements. I just like the hominess of a tent, vs. the coffin feel. (and rain is pretty constant here, so always a shelter concern for me, if hiking for a few days home)

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but a can a powdered fiber, like Metamucil, can be important if your out for a couple of weeks. Your digestion track will get all kinds of messed up once you change your eating habits, especially if its mostly proteins.

one thing i've learned about fire starters.is you can take a swiffer mop pad after it's been used and allowed to dry.and start a fire with it..

In another thread, i also suggested this particularly if you are an urban prepper since most of the diet would be canned goods and heavy on proteins.

A 200g box of Psyllium Fiber from your neighborhood Indian store can actually last a long time. You only need to add about half a teaspoon to every meal or 1/4 teaspoon to 8oz of water.

We feed it to the horses in with their grain to help their digestion.

Yes, Toilet Paper. I thought that was a more common acronym. Sorry.

Nothing to apologize for, am the dunce, remember? LOL

OT: The Tooter Pipe was also a good idea hehehe.... you can smoke practically anything in it...

I won't bore you with my long lists, but a few I feel important enough to mention are aspirin, ace wraps, ammo, did I mention ammo?, 3 separate fire starters, water filtration. There are hundreds of things you could add, unfortunately we aren't all army rangers that can carry 200lbs on our backs. I suggest that you consider multiple uses for each of the items you pick. I also have packed a smaller 'core' bag, containing my most valued items, just in case I have to ditch my larger pack of reserves in an emergency.

Tarp/tarp/tarp can't stress it enough, these little cheap ### ponchos are junk along with the cheap ### survival blanket. I diffently would not trust my life to one of those. A trap is way more versatile and they are not expensive. Don't get me wrong i carry a cheap ### poncho an blanket as back up or to give to someone in time of need. There are going to be some items you are not going to want to skimp out on. I have found a lot of gear at swap meets and garage sales dollar stores.
i carry a space blanket only for emergencies /or as a back drop in my leantoo if camping in the winter months for heating . and i carry 2 tarps you can make any type of shelter for any type of weather! so yea im with colt on that matter.

A bar of fels-naptha soap is $1 or less at walmart. If you get in poison ivy or oak, wash the skin with it to keep it from spreading. Also works as a washing up soap and a laundry soap. You can also clean sores and blisters with it. Works great.

I second fels naptha soap, it is the one soap that always with me when I hunt for the sole purpose of washing poison oak (oil) off the skin if needed, like baking soda it should be part of your home and B.O.B

What is baking soda good for?
