I finally got around to filling out the paperwork, and paying the three hundred bucks, to get two passports today. With reading about the S African situation deteriorating, I figured it would be a good idea to have legit papers in case we ever did have to leave the country. Honestly I feel that’s a pretty remote possibility to ever have to leave this country, but in today’s world having another form of official ID isn’t a bad idea. I am far from wanting (or being wealthy enough) to become a world traveler, but might want to visit Canada or Mexico again sometime. Anyways, the prepping angle motivated me to get off my butt and get the process started. I’m not even sure how long before I will actually get them, but I’m thinking 4 to 6 weeks. Glad I wasn’t in a hurry to go on a vacation!

Mom and sis are both world travelers. Me , I'm just happy being at home and have never even thought about getting one, but hunny has been thinking we should. He wants to visit where his grandfather came over from Poland, so maybe one day he'll get me on another airplane ride.

You never know if you’ll get the travel bug. Right now I’m thinking an island somewhere with tropical drinks and daily scuba trips :)

Oh, one thing I was surprised about, they take your birth certificates! She said they will be returned with the passports when they come, but I really didn’t like leaving without the originals.

I am not going anywhere,so I don't need or want one,,,,,you be careful if you do go out of country,,no where is really safe,,,hell trouble can find you here in the US of A

I have never had a full passport, I had a British Visitors passport-not much more than a cardboard id thing- to visit Canada in 1977, that expired after 1 year and I've never felt the need to apply for a replacement.
I wish I lived closer to Europe like you. There’s so many different cultures close by. Just think of all the different foods to try, flavors of beer, beautiful women..... sorry, back to prepping here!

you might think so but I don't much care for continental food, i'm your typical British meat and 2 veg type of person, pasta makes me physically sick, I gave up drinking 18 years ago and as for women........I don't think my wife would allow it!!:p

Damned reality... yeah, I’m a lightweight now with one beer, still love food though and will try just about anything new. Meat, gravy and a couple veggies is still my favorite too though. As fas as women go, I’ve never cheated on my wife, but I love to enjoy their beauty still. Thank god for glasses :)

My Passport runs out next year. Apparently we're going back to the old pre EU Navy blue UK passport so I'm holding out for that instead of another maroon EU thingy. Having a passport is a great piece of prepping.
I love travelling and have been to a few european countries Greece is my favourite although SW France comes a very close second and the US. Next I'm looking at visiting Scandinavia and the far East.

Don't take this the wrong way folks its a TIP not a Criticism, but many ordinary American citizens who know how hostile many people are towards Americans that they buy slip over mock Canadian Passport covers to help stay low profile when overseas.

The only time I ever had a problem with someone from another country, was a stuck up French girl who just looked down her nose at Americans period. Oh, and a waiter in a French restaurant in Amsterdam. Other than that I have always gotten along great with people in other countries. I've been to Canada, Mexico, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Except when they call me a "Yank" of course. Those're fightin' words to a Southern Boy!

I have definitely heard a lot about anti American sentiment. I think the grey man philosophy is wise throughout your life in most situations. Blending in unnoticed is just wise.

Islands...Cephalonia has the bluest sea I have ever seen and the diving and sea fishing is great. (they also have umbrella drinks and Ouzo, lots of Ouzo)

Is that in Greece? I had a friend that visits Greece frequently and said the place is literally overrun by immigrants. Most are male, 20’s to 30’s and really rude to women. She said before all this it was the most beautiful place she had ever been.

Yes, it's a Greek island, haven't been in 10 years so I can't say if the immigrant problem is there. If it is one of those affected it's a great shame. The people are friendly and very welcoming and the island itself is one the most beautiful places in the world. But I think Mainland Greece and the Ageaen islands has the problem, the Ionian islands are on the other side of the country I could be wrong though
