I don`t know how the setup there works around brush and bush fires. Here as farm and smallholding owners we are obliged by law to have fire-lanes around the our properties. In conjustion with the local farming orgs. we created a fire fighting capability within the our farm and smallholding communities. We bought what we call "fire fighters" 4 of them. Its a small trailer that have a 2 000 liter water tank mounted on it with a motorized waterpump and thick rupper hose with an ajustable nozzle. Each owner is also equiped with fith fire placks an extra long wooden stick with a wide rubber sheet about 3/4 inch thick and two 1.5 feet wide. Then there is about 6 water backpack sprayers end two fire starters, looks like a fire extingguisher with a curled copper on the front, whe use them start backburn fires. We contribute about 10$ a year to this "fire fund". This is done all over the country where bush fires are problamatic. Oh anohter thing all our comunity members are in radio contact in our area and adjacent areas, it makes the coordination in fighting the much eazier. I just think the scale that you guys have deal with, is very much larger, but maybe its something you can think about. I`ll check if i can get some pictures of those placks and other things i mentioned. I`m also very sorry about the lives that was lost in the fires so far, i really hope that it stays at that.

My BOL is in a western state surrounded by national forest, fortunately there are no fires close by at this time. Last year there was a fire very close to our place and the fire fighters would use our pond to load up water with their helicopters. I'm glad to have it available to them when needed.

That's what I have here is a large pond that's been used in the past though the drought has reduced the pond to unusable for bucket fill, so far We got no call to open our gates so the heavies can move in, the kids have the extra rooms and kitchen ready for them if or when they decide to pull in.

The Okanogan complex fire is now over 400 square miles, the fire and smoke is so bad they called off the firefighting helicopters and water bombers, they cancelled all smoke jumpers attack, they can't see the targets, getting lower is too much heat for the aircrafts :(

I guess everything depends on your perspective. I remember when I thought 30 was old.

Brent, given what's going on these days I wish I was in my 20s. At least I have damn good kids a super wife and at 61 I can still pack in 15 to 20 mile in the back country though not without some pain these days.

My wife talkes about the "little black book" and this one has got nothing to do with old flames and tellephone numbers. Its all all about at what age what goes. She always reminds me when something new is aching make a note youll be having it soon, she`s a few years older than i. [emoji6]

I guess I'm "lucky", I retired at 57 and my wife works out of the area and is gone 6 months out of the year. She still nags some but its by phone or email.

I gladly suffer from a desease called "selective hearing", i have perfected the art "Oh", "Yes", "My Golly", "Mmmm" and so forth my dear. But i love her to bits and gladly have her at my side if any SHTF. Very proud of her.
