Nice armedbear I appreciate the advice those radios sound pretty good do you happen to have a link to where they can be purchased?

Carhugger I'm gonna add you to a list of radio call signs I'm making for preppers in the area if that's good with you? I'll post one as soon as I get radios and give it some thought. This might be a beneficial thread to start so people have call signed for other preppers on their area.

Great idea, I am in South Bend, IN if you want a specific location. Do you have a call sign I should be aware of?

i was heading home one day from spending xmas in dallas tx.a guy had gotten a hand held cb for xmas..i forget what town he was in..but i do remember it got better distance then i figured it would..but yet i don't remember the distance it got.i need to get a cb for the van.another one for the home..

Guys, we use handhelds here on our farms. Routinely, we talk 16-18 miles away. The farm trucks have CBs in them and they average 30-32 mile range. Granted our farms sit on the valley floor at 8300' elevation....so that may play a hand in it!

Blessings,
Shenandoah

I only checked two of the big trucks but both of their CBs were "Cobra" and honestly if memory serves me correctly, they were pretty cheap. Our handhelds are Motorola MR350R, not so cheap. Hope that helps!
