I don't have little kids anymore, so don't worry about guns being around. On the other hand, I do seem to frustrate my wife a lot, so maybe I should reconsider the issue....

Amen to that Brother, my greatest snafu was teaching my wife how to shoot and use a knife. Some years ago whilst we were chatting about a friend getting divorced I posed the question " Honey what would you do if I ever had an affair? " she simply replied " I will show you later" and left it at that.

That evening I locked up, put out the fire, turned out the lights and went to bed.

She was sleeping like a baby with just a hint of a smile on her face, and next to her on my pillow was a pair of scissors and a note that simply said

"You would have to go to sleep at some point darling, does this answer your question? "

:)

My wife is from Taiwan. The first time I took her to shoot a pistol, she outshot me. I've also taken friends from Taiwan deer hunting, and they were very good marksmen. Turns out, everyone in Taiwan had mandatory military training, including marksmanship training with weapons including pistol and M-16. And Taiwan has one of the strictest gun control laws in the world, with zero legal private ownership. Yet their average proficiency with firearms is far and above that of the U.S. population. Talk about irony...o_O

I had mandatory drivers education in high school, why not mandatory firearms training if we are REALLY concerned about gun safety? (BTW, I did teach an after school firearms safety course when I was a high school teacher, so I practiced what I preach ;)) Screw universal background checks, how about universal firearms training?

A guy I read on a gun forum in the US who lived in a high crime area said he has his hand gun simply attached to a wall mounted magnet near his bedroom door way above head height where his kids cannot reach.

If a kid lacks the creative problem solving skills to just knock it down...then one has truly failed as a parent.

Personally, a biometric mini gun case is likely the most economical and safe option. (unless you are a deep sleeper).

by removing the clip and putting it where the kids can not lay hands on it makes a gun nothing more than a blunt object,,,,it will not matter if Jr. gets his hands on it or not

Yeah... kids would never put one another with a pistol or anything else, lol. Probably not fatal but painful. Yeah , I took the barrel of a 12 gauge shotgun upside my head once...
