Still see a few RV's in the Walmart parking lot. Safer parking (patrolled) and free. Somebody parked /camped there could also watch for when the lines are gone or short. Now what will happen if it really hits the fan, is anybodies guess.
Somehow my idea of camping in beautiful remote areas with nature around me just dosent include a Walmart parking lot. Like i said earlier, I could see if in your traveling you get tired and need to pul off the road to take a nap, but I’m certainly not going to break out the grill and lawn chairs! To each their own.

I think Walmart will let you overnight but any longer you have to ask as well.
I always ask management for permission and let them know we will be purchasing supplies as well. Unfortunately some "FOLKS" tend to put out the slides and the grill out with chairs and the playpen for the fur babies. This is frowned upon by the property mgmt companies as all walmarts Do Not Own the shopping center ,they rent the retail space. Plus municipality's fine that revenue is generated. Several now boot class* trucks (18 wheelers) to the tune of $500.00 to remove it and most of these company's have local law enforcement on speed dial. Thank goodness in thirty years of over the road driving i never experienced such actions but it has become quite common. Yes there are drivers who are nothing but disgusting HOGS who leave trash and pee bottles .I always when doing my pretrip walk around would police up the area around my truck, took maybe three minutes. Back to topic i have also seen large trash bags left ,broken lawn chairs etc left when to drive by trash cans at the front of store would have taken care . lowes, home depot, micheals and target stores are adapting this same attitude. good luck all

WalMart or any retail parking lot >>> if you plan on anything more than a quik park and a night's sleep you better be checking ...

all kinds of municipalities instituted parking lot bans on camping >>> they turned into nothing but homeless camps ....

The city of San Diego is using taxpayer money to buy hotels/motels and using them to shelter the homeless bums. Those buildings will look like the Air Force dropped 1,000 pound bombs on them after those creatures inhabit them.

NYC and LA didn't buy anything - they just seized the empty hotels and moved the street trash in >>> I think it was NYC that was trying to vacate them now and can't get them moved out ....

it's not just that particular building that suffers - draw a circle of 10-12 blocks and it's allllll trashed - God help the residents that live nearby ......

I love this forum! I am always learning new things, like the word glamper! Forgive me if I use that in the future lol
EDIT: holy crap, thats an established term! How fitting! I was sooo ticked off last time I went to the camp ground just to hear a 6kW generator run all night.

Traveling across the country with our travel trailer, we have stayed at Walmart parking lots, casino parking lots and roadside parks. We prefer the quiet and solitude of boondocking. About every 3 nights we like to park at a state park or RV park to fill up with water and flush our tanks. We have boondocked in some very pretty places, watching deer or turkey from our dinette table. Twice we have been to Burning Man. We started out as tent campers but as we turned 60 we decided to try the easy life of a travel trailer. A travel trailer is a lot like a boat, BREAK OUT ANOTHER THOUSAND. Always needs repair work and parts.

Motor Homes are MONEY pits too, and you can hardly find anyone to work on them!!!

Still at the phase I can sleep anywhere. Slept many times in my Impala trunk with the back seat down
Rented a small SUV and did it cross country 2 years ago. Spent 1 Night in a $40 motel because it was Iowa with 90 degrees and 90% humidity.
My new truck I have tested it out. Took a nap in the back seat. Pretty comfy. Horse trailer escape plan- cots, sleeping bags, battery powered fans,
The most comfortable escape option is the Tesla. Can have comfortable conditions in the car, with minimal battery drain. Just longer but cheaper to fill.
