My wood stove is in use right now. It’s chilly and damp outside, the fire not only adds warmth but comfort as well. I think I will have it going till about April or so....

I did a wood stove out of a 50cal ammo box, just in case.
I saw some for sale at a show I went to. They were I believe 150.00 and looked pretty well made. The only bad thing is they did not have an adjustable air intake. That’s the most important part for regulating heat. I spoke with the guy about them and he said it was coming on future models. I really like the small stoves as they don’t consume much fuel and are portable.

Good video. Wood is our only source of heat here. From mid October to probably May the wood stove will be burning almost 24/7. Occaisonally I'll let the fire go out if its going to be a warm day (above freezing). I also do a lot of cooking on the wood stove.
Years ago when I had pack horses I had a collapsible wood stove for use in a wall tent. It had a metal container that attached to the side of the stove for heating water.

AD what sort of good hardwoods do you have up there for firewood ?

Birch would be the closest tree we have to hardwood around here. I burn 100% Douglas Fir and Western Larch. In our outside fire pit I'll burn pine. We have choke cherry here that I use for smoking food, but they don't grow big enough for firewood.

my wood burner does not like the evergreens spitting popping and coating the chimney with creosote, do you have to run your burner over 500 degrees to get complete combustion??

How dry do you make your seasoned firewood, i'm lucky cost most of mine gets stored in an old sun room so it dries out to between 9 and 12% moisture.

I'd rather burn hardwoods too but I have to burn what I have available. The fir and larch burn pretty clean and hot. Most of the time I have all my widows open. All of my firewood comes from standing dead trees. I'm guessing that many of these trees have been dead for 3 to 5 years or more. We have very dry summers here so the wood is about as dry as it can be.

Thats cool, our rainy season is 365 days each year so naturally dry wood isnt that common, averages about 20% moisture in these parts.

I try to save my hardwood for the evenings, alder, maple, apple. For the days I generally use douglas fir, hemlock and spruce.

I bet the smell is gorgeous from those woods. ours is Beach, Oak, Ash, Elm, Birch, Larch etc mainly the usual deciduous tree family.
