SE,

We don't believe socialism works. When the gov't puts $5 taxes on gasoline that should cost $2 with everyone's profits built into that $2, then you have pure socialism.

And socialism has never, never, never worked. Short term, it's great. But your own PM said it best: socialism works great until you run out of other people's money.

Yes, off topic. But it needed to be said. Not to say we in the US don't have our fair share of problems... (and then some)

Yup Socialism is just a polite term used by left wingers to describe parasitism.

I would like to have a vehicle that gets 40 mpg, but none of these cheap foreign made throw-away cars could pull my stock trailer, equipment trailer, boat etc. Until something better comes on the market I'll stick to my F250 at 12 mpg.

I feel your pain, my F350 gets about the same gas mileage, lol...and is 20yrs old to boot. It's a frickin' tank though. (and with the aux tank filled, I could drive for over 1100 miles range)

You guys will get a laugh out of this, but then really think about it! OK, this ONLY applies to areas where you don't have emissions testing or they expire for older vehicles.

I think the site is shadetreeconversions.com . Dang, site no longer exists. Try this: https://www.farmshow.com/view_articles.php?a_id=87

A couple of rednecks put a diesel tractor engine with a matching transmission in a ford pickup and got a sweet 40 mpg. All the power to pull your trailer you want. Sounds like a tractor coming and going. A buddy bought for $50 their write-up. It's a bunch of "hold my beer and watch me make that fit!" But I can't argue with their results.

I am very tempted to have them build me my next truck.

Keep these details in mind:
* Tractors are made for high efficiency, LONG life, and great torque.
* Tractors are NOT made for: quiet, emission controls, light weight.

They had to add turbo or super chargers to get the torque you want in a car/truck accelerating, but that's ok.

So I hope you enjoy... and note these guys are in Georgia.

here is a little tidbit for all of you,,,yes Irma will cost us a lot of money over the coming months,,,,,,,BUT,,,,,THE STORM CHASERS live for this there are people who make their living from others miss fortune,,,they will go to a stricken area and in a short time make enough to wait for the next one to hit,,,,when Andrew hit Florida in 92 I know one fellow who made enough to retire.....

I actually did some work replacing mobile home floors after the 1979 "Easter Flood" in Jackson, Mississippi. I wasn't a storm chaser though...I lived there.

No megabucks there, I had to keep my day job.

Years later, I lived in a trailer for a while, and I made damned sure it had 3/4" plywood flooring.

after Andrew the big paying jobs were roofing tree removal and fence repair and home repair,,,,,,,,those people loved their fence,,,,the fellow who retired was doing roofing

Hell, we were in that situation even before the hurricane. Reputable roofing companies here are booked up for months when there's not a hurricane. The one I trust I have to beg to get on their waiting list. I have waited six months for them to do a repair job. Lots of shady operators taking advantage of the situation. People give up waiting on the reputable companies and hire whoever will come out.

Tree companies too.
