The way I see it is if a person decides to take a job that might temporarily shut down or not get a pay check the day they should for whatever reason, knows it can happen and should prepare for something like rhat. As in put up some food supplies and money to get by with. It not like it was a big surprise. . . They will eventually get what is owed to them.

I guess we are all in the same boat as far as any of us could loose our job at any moment. Could be the economy, health issue, car wreck, whatever. Not having some savings and supplies is just reckless and stupid in my opinion, espechially if you have children. It still amazes me that mist view preppers as extreme still.

Government Shutdown Impacts FDA Food Safety Inspections
What has been glossed over in all the hoopla is that State and Local Agencies, not affected by the Federal Budget, have primary responsibility for food inspections. That health inspection rating on the wall in the restaurant didn't come from the FDA, it came from the local Health Department, which is NOT a Federal agency.

I do feel for the people that just want to do their jobs and live their lives. Not paying people for their work is not a good way for our politicians to perform their duties.

a) Trump already put forth (and I believe it was approved) a measure to back pay those who do work during the shutdown.

b) He's hardly the first President to use the tactic. The past Presidents did so as well.

I wonder how long it will take food stamp recipients to say, "Just give him the damn wall already!!!" And hey, my mother's on SNAP, so I get it. My brother and I simply made sure she had what she needed.

I still feel that this whole wall fight is insane. We don’t need billions of dollars for a wall. We need real immigration reform so that when people are caught being here illegally they are deported ASAP. I’m not against fencing, which we do have in many places, but billions?

We do catch them, we do deport them as a great cost, 3, 4, 5, 6 or more times. I think a wall is a heck of a lot cheaper. Then we do the immigration reforms. Stop the bleeding before worrying about applying the stitches. We have got another 1,000 headed our way and Mexico did nothing to stop them at their border, just left the crossing unattended. If we are not going to build the wall and block their entry, then at least allow an open season on them like the wild hogs. Invaders should not get a nice warm cots and 3 squares a day. Not to mention the medical / dental cost to boot. They are people when they stay in their country, they become invaders when they illegally cross into our country. No difference from any home invasion.

I’m all for a one way ticket directly back to their capital. That’s about what they are spending per night in the camps per person per day. Sure some will make it back here again, but the majority won’t and word will eventually get around that they can’t stay. Requiring legal ID for everything from work to rental property will slow down the desire to come here too. As long as they can work, live freely and even get govt assistance here no wall or anything else is going to stop them from coming. Cutting off the ability to stay here is the only thing that makes sense to me.

First we build the wall and dramatically slow down the daily bum's rush at the borders. Then we implement your plan. Of course you plan will take 20 years to get passed, if at all, but at least the wall will be slowing down many until you idea becomes reality. I would add one last step. Anyone who does return after being deported, is a death penalty recipient. One free ride home on us and one free ride to hades.

Hey, I can’t fault anyone for wanting a better life. This country was built by people that did just that. I have no problem with just deporting them. The ones smart and dedicated enough are welcome to come and try to come in legally. No matter what though, a plane ticket home is a lot cheaper than what we are spending now. I like the idea of taking all the monies from all the programs that we currently spend on the programs supporting them to enforcing Swift deportation and maybe even some of it going towards a barrier. I’m not on board with punishing anyone for trying to find a better life for themselves and their children though.

Now that Trump counter-offered, it's clearing on the Dems now. Since they said no prior to hearing the speech, do you think that clears the road for him to declare emergency?

Is that his plan? He could be pulling another Trumpism on old Nancy

First lets get rid of the false liberal jargon. We are not punishing them for wanting a better life, that is not against the law. We punish them for violating our American laws. You are repeating a false statement. We are enforcing our laws that they are violating. The person invading someone's home just wants their life improved too, with somebody else's hard earned stuff, but it is still against the law. Yes during the agricultural age and the industrial age, immigrants came to this country, through designated ports of entry. And those that did not meet the current criteria were send back, on their dime, not ours. The pasts labor needs does not dictate the current needs or the future needs of our country. Another fact that is not mentioned by the liberals, these immigrants did not come here to make America great, they came to improve their lives, self interest that the liberals seem to hold up as some sacred cow. So because we have a past of immigrants does not make them special, just plain folks looking to fill a need (which we don't have) and make a better life. I accept anybody that wishes to enter legally and offers a value to America. I do not want any immigration but I will accept those that enter legally. We do not need to increase our population, we need to reduce it. Automation and improvements with technology is going to reduce and eventually eliminate most manual (unskilled) labor jobs.

While these people are in their respective countries, they should focus on fixing it and not bring their poverty to our county. We do not need more maids, janitors, gardeners, fruit pickers or any other non skilled labor. I am not sure there is a skilled labor shortage in any commercial or Scientific area of America. Excess labor simply reduces the wage and lowers the standard of Americans. The unskilled Americans are going to have enough of a problem finding employment that will pay enough to scrape out a living. They do not need to compete against a bunch of illegals.

Just read it. I think the term illegal needs to be recognized by both parties. They have no rights to education, medical or any social plans, irreguardless of DACA status or not. I think giving the daca a chance to apply for citizenship if they have a spotless record is ok, but not funding in any way.

If allowed to stay, they will get funded. The Democrats want and maybe even need these people, so no matter what they will get funded. Planned Parenthood abortion is not supposed to be funded either but it is easy to play with the numbers. Sanctuary cities, legal aid funds, refusing to work with ICE. Do you really believe they wont get funded? If you don't ask if they are illegal, then how could you keep illegals for getting an education, medical, or social plans? The wall will stop the majority of illegal crossings, not all. I would call it a success if it stopped even a quarter of the illegals but I expect it will stop 80 to 90%. As for DACA getting a path, no frigging way. You do not reward criminals (remember violated out immigration laws) with the greatest honor we have, citizenship. This not a gold start to handout for class participation. Getting to stay in the country is reward enough.
