I do now...didn't before!

http://www.askaprepper.com/15-must-canned-foods-didnt-know-existed/

Example: "Duck Confit- Popular in France, canned duck with fat doesn’t seem terribly popular in the US. However, the high fat content in this canned dish could prove to be helpful in a SHTF situation. It’s great for soups and stews, and it adds a sumptuous touch that you won’t often find in the world of canned goods."

I like the psychological aspect they talk about. Having a good variety does make sense. I may look for some more varied items, but am set fairly well as is. I do agree, as a US citizen, it would be tough to exist on just rice and beans for weeks on end.

Very interesting. Whole canned chicken, I did not know. Now some of the other stuff I will pass on. I have eaten snails (escargot) but I don't want canned snail, I did not like it that much. Canned pudding, now I had forgotten about it but will now be added to the list. Man does not live by bread alone.

Hunts snack pack, chocolate of course! I could do a Carl and eat a whole tub of the stuff....

These are the bits. They are a great morale booster ;)

Sponge Pudding is like a hot cake with a sauce of some sort or in the case of spotted dick, fruit. It's a very English pudding. Obviously lost in translation. If any of you have ever had a self saucing pudding, that's what these are like.:)

This thread just motivated me to order from Walmart.com. I got freeze dried #10 cans of mozzarella cheese, powdered eggs, chicken, fettachini, teriyaki, stroganoff and banana slices. They didn’t have any chocolate pudding in #10cans though..... soon to be remedied! I’ve been working towards more freeze dried stores due to the longevity and the weight. I figure if I ever have to go mobile quickly the lighter the better.

I've got a few. . . Butter, cheese, hambyrger, chicken, both deboned and chicken legs and thighs bone in. The closest I have to pudding is lemon curds and butternut curds I remember seeing recipes for canned pudding in one of my grandmother's books growing up but she is long gone now. I am still searching for a recipe for puddings. Bacon is definitely on my list to do. If anyone does try it, I would suggest cooking your bacon first. If not it just comes out like a nasty mess, but good to use for seasonings. Homemade tamales may be good to do too, kinda like the bacon with parchment paper, but the Hormel ones are just gross. I have the recipe for breads and cakes, just haven't been willing to use my jars for that. Maybe one day if I ever have more jars than I know what to do with. As for everything else on the list, well I'll pass.

Holy Toledo bend. I just did a quick search on home canned pudding and got a few site suggestion. One was in a PC and processed the same way as you would do milk. If only Betsey was still in milk. . .still something I will file away under the one day section. :)

Maybe we each need to donate $5.00 to Danil54grl and convince her to make some homemade pudding and send a small jar to each donor. I don't know, I might break OPSEC to get a jar of real good homemade chocolate pudding and of course the recipe. :D

I don't need the recipe, I wanted YOU to make it and was trying to find your bribery point. :D
I got the shopping done to top off my pantry this afternoon, and yes I added some chocolate pudding! Unfortunately I only added 4 small single serving packs. I didn’t see any large cans at Walmart or I would have gotten them. Oh well, I’m still on a damned diet anyways. I am looking forward to one of those snack packs soon though! I also got more canning and iodized salt to top off a shelf.

I have a few items listed from OP link, I also opt to store a great number of #10 cans of powdered butter etc.., canned butter may be ok for a few years but not 25yrs. Always best to have a mixtures of stored food. The down stairs pantry is stored by duration of usage, current to 1 year, 5 year short term, 25 year long term.

I’ve just gotten to where I can afford to store some of the freeze dried stuff. I like the idea of buying it once, and since I’ll be dead by 30 yrs, I either get to use it to save my butt or I never have to buy or rotate it out. Have you used the powdered butter yet? Just wondering about taste.

I’ve used and it works as butter though more like whipped butter, I used it mainly for recipes, might have add salt though. People have said that I would be dead before I used all the preps and I always stated, at least I had the satisfaction of doing something I want to do while living.
