I am setting up a get home bag. Riding the bus, through all the homeless camps, the "bad" side of town (it's hardly SE Chicago/Gary) it's clearly time to get my concealed carry permit, and get set up for a possible bad situation.

I picked up a Hazard 4 gray man sling bag. It seems ok.

I have a 64 ounce thermos in it, a Camelback bladder for water, and the main pocket still has room for a small lunch. I have a can of pepper spray (don't have to just kill in self defense), some celox, a tourniquet ( a guy got stabbed a few days ago 2 stops down from my transfer stop) , a write in the rain notebook and space pen, a Madison map in a Ziploc, a plate compass, some athletic tape, and a SOG multitool. I have a bit more room. It's made for concealed carry, with a hidden slip pocket, but I will have the pistol IWB.

I'm going over some older threads, but I'm open to suggestions. About a 100$ budget left for the setup.

I’ve got a few more things, but it’s a 20 mile get home for me...

I bought a EMT pouch for first aid supplies and loaded it up. Since it’s that far, more socks and a pair of underwear. I can’t get away with it at work, but I put in a pair of hiking shoes as well, along with some moleskin. Seems like there’s a shemagh in there as well.

Tends to get rebuilt for each season. I use a 5.11 Moab sling bag with a ccw pocket and a sunglass pocket.

I travel by public transport too. I have a FFP3 disposable face mask, some dust goggles, a lightweight poncho and £20 in cash, which is enough to get me home in a taxi from work if need be. I also carry a packet of pocket sized wet wipes.
Luckily, I don't travel through a bad area and could walk home if need be. I also have a credit card available to pay for a hotel room if I think it would be safer/easier for me to stay in place.
I always have a bottle of water and a handy pack of biscuits(cookies)

I think your EDC should reflect your environment and the people in it

I carry a gun (except when I'm at work, because they're forbidden), my Florida CCT, a swiss army knife with all the doodads, a charged cellphone, a paracord bracelet, a tactical assisted-opening knife (has a seatbelt cutter and car window smasher), a button-style compass, a tiny, threaded wick-type cigarette lighter (like a miniature Zippo with a gasket and threaded cover so the fluid doesn't evaporate), and a tini maglight that uses 1 AAA battery.

My gun is (usually) a stainless Walther PPK/S in .380. I keep it fed with Honady hydrashocks, and I carry one spare mag.

I sometimes carry a polymer Taurus .380 that was suggested by Brent. It was horribly unreliable until I switched to factory Taurus magazines, and then it fed like a dream.

bag and equipment I have in every vehicle, it is a GHB/BOB kindly a hybrid. My I.N.C.H. bags are at home with very similar equipment plus.

And I mouthed off and left off knives, fire starters, a couple bics, and a bunch of other stuff.

I like the idea of the Laplander.... gonna have a look at that.

If you always keep your bag in the car, do you worry that the concentrated heat of the sun will cause the food and medical stuff to deteriorate?

I actually don't always keep a lot of stuff in my car because it's Florida, and the inside of a car can get to over 125°F very quickly.

I don’t keep food that’ll go bad in mine. The mountain house stuff he was talking about is freeze dried, so I doubt it’ll go bad before Maverick does.

It didn’t take me long to figure out the heat problem: I had some protein bars in it back when it was cool that turned into melted wads of crap. I’m sure they were edible, but definitely not appetizing.....

That's only out in the sun for extended period of time, our vehicles are garaged, if the wife has to go to the university she's in a parking garage. if I was in Arizona or similar I wouldn't do it, the medical is changed every 6 months, I'm in the Pacific Northwest, we have short summers and generally not above 75deg (average my location)

You’re rubbing it in again ain’t ya, my friend?

I want to reprogram the temp display in our stuff to read ‘Hell’ for anything over 95....

Still thinking about shrimp and grits, by the way...

While I love my beautiful Arizona heat, you do not leave consumables in the vehicle. Car trunk can go over 140 in the summer. We use insulated bags to get the frozen food home from the grocery store and it is only 5 miles away.

My wife is half Native American and half Mexican, she loves the sun and prefers Arizona :) I was born in Galveston and lost my taste for the heat and humidity

I still love the heat but not the humidity. Been to Galveston in the summer, beautiful country and people but real glad to get out of there. When the air has more moisture then my sweat, time to leave.
