as we have the knife Guru here,do you Roninsensei have
possibly a vid or two about the karambit??

I know, but just in case...sure know I'm not a wizard with those knives.

Not a fan but, I do know how to use it well.. Its only good for knife vs nothing in my opinion. It's a weapon of surprise but, if the other person has a regular blade then you are at a great disadvantage. My buddy Doug Marcaida has some good stuff on it.

This video isn't the best but it shows how the karambit user is at a clear disadvantage. His arm was cut so many times he wouldn't be able to use that blade any more...

I'd prefer to use a karambit (If I bothered to own one, that is) in the conventional grip, cause when your blade is short, giving away even more reach, with the reverse grip, is a bad idea, and the reverse grip is harder to use (with adequate speed and accuracy) when slashing to the forerams.

Agreed Dalisa but, not what the karambit was designed for. In any knife situation I prefer knife forward. Reverse grip is only good for sneak attacks.

Sorry Artic but, the handgun is at a major disadvantage in a knife fight. ask Jim Bowie if being shot stopped him at the sandbar fight and I can show you video after video of officer and others loosing to a knife when they drew their firearm. At a distance of 20 + feet your at a disadvantage, within 10 feet your probably going to die. Reality is that the knife is a weapon of proximity and is king within 10 ft. In trained hands its even worse. We teach that each tool has its proper fighting distance. A gun is a distance weapon.

They were mexican police. Maybe not trained very well but, there were lots of guns and more of them got it than he did. Just don't believe that the gun is the best in close. Don't make that fatal error.

there's always a good reason to me having my hand in front pants pocket when im walking,to some where. thats where my 2 bladed knife is..i also have a belt knife.where the knife handle looks like the buckle.

p.s. edit..a 2 bladed knife dont work to well.if a person has to get it out and open it fast,in a self protection situation.on account 1 blade is liable/will get in the way of the other blade.(the one to be opened up)..the reason i know this.i just tried it out,as if i was in a have to situation.so i'll be looking into 1 bladed lock blade pocket knifes.

My job requires me to confront trouble makers from time to time . We are not allowed to be armed and you never know what you can walk into . I carry a tactical folder that opens fast and razor sharp . If I'm within arms reach I could show someone thier liver before they could deploy a concealed firearm . And personally I'm a shooter but have to adapt to the situation .

Guns and ammo have come a long way since Jim Bowie's day. Its really a moot point for me anyway, because I can't imagine any situation where I'd ever be within 10-20 feet from someone with a knife intent to do me harm. I do however, carry an automatic knife in my pocket and have been trained how to use it, but I'll stand behind taking a gun to a knife fight anyway.

When dealing with a crazy person you cant take anything for granted . The person in a checkout line behind You and Yours , the person pumping gas at pump next to You , the person walkin up the stairs of yhe Court House as you go to renew your tags or pay land tax's . You do not always get a warning. Thats the kind of stuff I gleem while watching the news or reading the paper.
